the weeaboo question was interesting to see brought up. A weeaboo is normally just an Otaku (a Japanese person into anime and game "culture") who is not Japanese. It was probably once derogatory, and might still be to some, but has definitely lost a lot of its bite and I have seen it used kind of endearingly sometimes.

IIRC, it is 'derogatory'. It was used for people who were waaaay to into Japanese that wished they were Japanese, thought Japan is/was the most amazing thing ever, threw in random Japanese words into their sentences unironically and stuff. Most of their knowledge of Japan only comes from anime. Nowadays? It's mostly used in a joking matter by 99% of the people, like the one guy said, 'we made it our own'.

Otaku is also not (wasn't? not sure if this has changed yet) technically a good thing, in Japan at least. Those are the actual NEETs that were basically addicted to whatever their obsession was, generally anime and/or idols.

i would prepare a ritual sacrifice for a jojo podcast with these two and someone on the staff/friend of the site who has seen it

i know jeff said it turns him off, same thing happened to me. funnily enough i bounced hard off dark souls 3 times before loving it too.

I would love nothing more than that too. Imo, Jojo is one of the best shonen series out there, if not the best.

@humanity: F2P games do not require PS+.

F2P and Subscription based games don't. Don't need PS+ to play FFXIV, for example.

@teddified: It's pre-recorded cause they're busy with E3 stuff, I assume.

I like how Vinny and Alex seem yo be slowing forcing Dan to realize that Metal gear is not the greatest story ever told.

Dan is just remembering things real wrong and it frustrates me :( I adore the story of Metal Gear, and it's easily one of my all time favorites.

I think the core hang up on that philosophy question that made it so confusing for them, is I don’t think you KNOW that the robot will put additional money into the box before you’re in the room and already had your mind made up. Therefore, at least in my interpretation, it IS more of a question of morals insofar as you’re basically going in as the type of person to take just one box or to take both. Because I think going INTO the room you’ve basically already chosen what you’ll do, so even though the robot would make you want to choose just one box after telling you about the bonus, you only GET that bonus if you came to that conclusion independent from any information you would gain inside the room.

That said I dropped out of college after one semester so I anticipate smarter people telling me I’m wrong lol

I took it the same way too. You just know there's 5k in both boxes, you can pick just A, or B and then A (not A and then B or whatever, think that was thrown in there). You don't know there's bonus money in A until after you were scanned and already in the room. I think some of them misunderstood part of it and only 1-2 of them had it but then got confused by the discussion of how the others interpreted it.

Man anime nerds are the worst. You guys can't even **see** the words "subs" and "dubs" together without needing to put on your splaining pants and start lecturing the room about which is better in your expert opinions. I haven't listened to the podcast yet either but I truly hope that the context that subs and dubs get brought up in is Jeff and Ben talking about how awful arguments between subs and dubs zealots are and not an actual debate about subs vs dubs.

I wasn't lecturing, just said I disagreed and why :( I even said like what you like, watch what you prefer because in the end it doesn't really matter.

Have not listened to the podcast yet, but assuming this is a Dubs vs Subs discussion, the answer is subs for MOST things before the mid 2000s or so, and dubs for MOST things after.

They really stepped their dub game up in the past decade or so, to the point where there's no real reason to go with subs when dubs exist.

Nah. I'll agree they're generally not terrible any more, but dubs are still worse than subs pretty much across the board.

I can't help but disagree. I've watched a decent amount of dubs of recent anime and always find at least once voice that's just incredibly bad, along with changes of dialog that can completely change characters and/or scenes.

For me its that I'm never able to square away english intonations and the overaggerations of what's on screen. I need the extremes for both.

It's mostly really bland voice acting, or just really bad voices in general, example being the series Prison School they gave Andre a voice that sounds like Smeagol from LotR. It's ridiculously bad and doesn't fit the character. In the simuldub (or whatever the original online dub was called) they threw in gamergate references into a scene, which was thankfully removed in the actual release. Then Maid Dragon gives Lucoa a valley girl voice, and changes dialog of characters which changes the meaning of what some characters say. For the most part I'd say dubs are still middling quality at best, with some exceptions on the 'actually pretty good' side of things. But! If someone prefers the dubs then that's great! Like what you like, watch what you want. It doesn't really matter in the end! There's a few shows I'd recommend watching the dubbed version over subs any day though (FMA, Cowboy Bebop, and Baccano, for example).

I do wish they got more voice actors for dubs though, there seems to be so few and some of them are very samey, along with one or two male and female voice actors I just can't stand the voice of, like the main dude in Highschool of the Dead just sounds bored half the show There's also a few female voice actors that just sound very breathy/weird, that's mostly when they're voicing younger characters it feels like, using HotD as an example again, iirc the Teacher had the voice that I hate. It just sounds so artificial.

Sorry for the long reply, it's probably very scatterbrained too. Woops!
