Games of 2017

This year has really been incredible. So many great games and these are just the ones I was able to spend enough time on to be comfortable putting on a list. Though I tried PUBG and it did nothing for me so it's not here on purpose.

List items

  • I've always been a sucker for Zelda games, but this one was just breathtaking. Everything came together for me (controls, art style, story, world, etc.) to create an experience I'm not likely to forget soon.

  • See what I said above pretty much. This game probably produced the most smiles for me all year.

  • Styyyyyyyle

  • I loved the original Splatoon and this is more Splatoon which I'm definitely on board for. The co-op mode is a ton of fun when it's active and it's still some of the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game this year.

  • Some things took a step forward and some things took a step back. I still spent a LOT of hours in Destiny this year. Hopefully they get it figured out going forward.

  • I'm a sucker for great pixel art and golf games so this hit me just right. The golf controls are very sharp and makes for a very enjoyable experience.

  • One game I need to finish for sure, but this game is incredibly well made. The controls are great and the atmosphere created is

  • A very intriguing game so far. I'm really enjoying the world and they have done a great job so far at introducing all the different systems in a way that's not overwhelming.

  • Coolest mashup I've seen in a long time. And the simplified combat system is exactly what someone like me needed compared to XCOM.

  • From playing through it again on the SNES Classic to discovering the Randomizer section of the speedrunning community, this game has recaptured my attention. In the process of learning the speedrun so I can give randomizer a try and I highly recommend everyone check it out!
