GOTY 2011

David's ultimate list OF ULTIMATES POWAH

Worthy mentions although I haven't finished them yet:

Rayman: Origins

Witcher 2

List items

  • Take away the fanboyism I certainly have for Zelda, this is one of my favourite games this generation. One of the few times through playing video games I felt disappointed that...hell, the game does finish at one point.

  • Bastion manages to feel like the perfect package for exactly the right price.

  • I was sort of in the same boat as I was with L4D2 waiting for this, sure I wanted more of the same but what could they improve?

They made the story matter, scenery is actually varied, jokes keep rolling out, puzzles are well made and the ending is feckin' fantastic.

  • You could say Deus Ex is janky, but so is Skyrim - so shut ya face.

Human Revolution is a great reminder that cyberpunk can be awesome, with skill tree talents that felt like they truly mattered and great stealth scenarios selecting this was a no-brainer.

  • Explosive dumb campaign, with an 'actual' conclusion - although lacking SOME answers I'd have liked. Gears 3 manages to top all the other Gears campaign experiences with no problem. Where Gears 3 truly delivers is in its multiplayer, finally a smooth experience online that felt near enough to balance as competitive shooters get.

  • Battlefield moments are still the best online multiplayer moments.

HELICOPTER IN YOUR FACE, TANK EMERGES FROM THE SMOKE, BLOWS UP, SEVERAL TROOPS PARCHUTE IN, BUILDINGS EXPLODE AND A JET CRASHES. Respawn.

  • I'm glad they recognized they have way too many Pokemon, thus making other continent Pokemon only appear in waves of end game scenarios.

Discovering evolutions does get me far too excited and with the focus of only letting you see new Pokemon through the story, I felt refreshed with this instalment to the series.

  • A great immersive experience, Skyrim manages to leap forward more than I expected when compared to Fallout 3 & Oblivion.

  • With fighting games dropping like pigeon shit on game shelves since SF4, Mortal Kombat was bound to happen. Turns out it worked, forgetting most of its atrocious 3D sequels after UMK3. Mortal Kombat did just right returning to its roots.

The single player adventure is engaging throughout constant cut-scenes which will cut right to a fight seamlessly.

  • Although I said Skyrim is overwhelming, LBP2 needs its own word for overwhelming. Gigawhelming or smt.

They managed to add so much shit to this game there's just no real end in sight for what the community manage.
