Uhhhh, wow? After finishing the demo I can't believe how high I am on this. If this hits like Lies of P then Korea is 2 for 2. And so far I think it has more than enough potential to do so. When I played a bit of Nikke(Shift Up's last game), I was worried that this would mostly be a shallow hack and slash with mega waifu bait. Its still got that bait but everything else around it shines bright enough that you don't even need the bait.

I'd say it plays like a more anime Sekiro with some neat tricks of its own. Its got flashy moves and I like that they implemented a combo system so it doesn't feel so hack and slash. Think DMC light. I can't believe how good some of these boss fights felt. There's an optional boss that was a really fun way to put yourself to the test.

Exploring the world, while mostly linear(not a negative to me), has a very Nier feeling to it. It is complimented in the same way by its somber enchanting music. It does a lot of things that you'll find familiar, however its all so tightly put together.

There is quite a bit of customization to be done here as well that I was pleased to discover. Plenty of stuff going on in the skill trees as well as equipment items. There is also the familiar find things in the world that will upgrade your health and various other stuff feature.

From what I can tell it offers a pretty decent enemy variety. There is a data bank for them and from memory only there were over 40 for sure. Which is good as the devs say its around 25 hours for the main story and 30-50 for doing everything.

I think that's about all for now. Might share more thoughts later. I'd love to get some comparisons to FFXVI since they likely share some similar DNA. I haven't played it so the demo is all I have to on. Give it a shot!

Edit: Performance was good. Game was pretty. Bums were jigglin.

What a weird time to try something like this. How the hell do you expect to compete with other providers that are so far ahead on that front? Are people gonna use Kotaku over Fextralife, Fandom, Gamefaqs, Youtube, Steam, and every other outlet already making guides a higher priority. I could imagine a slight increase in traffic but not enough to be substantial. Not to mention the amount of staff available and willing on top of the weekly goals.

This sounds like a dying gasp.

Gotta agree on Rebirth. I just hit Gongaga last night and ya its certainly starting to get a little samey in many respects. the push and pull of the mini games hasn't been as egregious as I thought it would be but there's no way I'm going back to them to get the best score. Just like Remake, I know this isn't a game I am going to even attempt to get 100%. That being said, I have a tough time putting it down. I'm curious how I'll feel by the end. I haven't even messed with the combat simulator yet, which is weird since I love the combat. The rest of the side stuff does really start to feel like a Ubi checklist. Chadley almost feels like an excuse not to write better side stories. Just collect that data, Cloud.

I have a feeling that everything I have yet to experience will have some high's and lows but I'm not sure its gonna hit like the first half of the game. Feels like Costa Del Sol/Gold Saucer is the last major high point and heading into Gongaga, while enjoyable from the main story perspective, really feels like retreading all the things you've already done, again. I can't even say that I've really liked any of the mini games attached to the protorelic either. I'm also out on Queen's Blood.

Edit: I did not expect jiggle physics in the game lol(which only happen in a particular outfit). The sit up mini game(booo that game) is hilarious. Costa Del Sol is a thirst trap.

@tartyron: The new Crazy Taxi will just be 'All I Want' and 'All I Want" Remixes.

@brian_:Coincidence? I've got my eye on you. Perhaps your shining in the darkness more than you let on.

@bigsocrates I'm not a gamblin man but... Nah I'm just not much of a card game player, including Queen's Blood--and Triple Triad(kinda like the theme though) and Tetra Master(boooo forcing it into the main story). That Balatro gambling ban is bunk.

@ben_h Gotta love the IDGAF nights.

@bigsocrates @bribbins Heh, I suppose I should have accounted for your lot as well. I guess the overall intent is those games that you lose sleep over.

I see Brotato, and my mind is still like Balatro?

Alright 3AM crew, what's got you burning through your oil reserves just a little longer?

I played more FF7 Rebirth yesterday than I'd care to admit. Even at 4AM I had to willfully put myself to bed. I'm sure we'll all talk about it in a future discussion.

Anything delighting your senses and destroying your REM cycles?

One thing that I don't think gets brought up enough is how prominent the handheld market has been for Nintendo. Up until the Wii, which I argue sold so well because of the gimmick, their home consoles were on a steady decline. I was surprised to discover the Gamecube only sold like 22 million units. And the Wii U was actually a pretty neat little machine with some banger titles, even if it very much feels like a precursor to the Switch. Though I will say the extra gamepad functionality for stuff like the Zelda HD remasters was excellent. I'm (Mario)wondering if Nintendo is holding those back because they intend to implement a similar experience on the next Switch. Besides the obvious we just released TOTK and you should buy it notion.

The 3DS install base was around 80 million. I am convinced that this is one of the reasons they ditched that market in favor of unifying their whole platform since they couldn't necessarily bank on their home consoles. Which leads them to the island they live on now. And its worked out exceedingly well for them. Even if the more home console focused folks aren't as happy with it. I expect this is just what Nintendo is moving forward. You've got all your customers in one place and you don't have to develop for separate platforms. Win-Win.

The Switch may have also been a perfect storm of consolidation and timing. Many folks that were gaming in the 90's are having kids and are buying them Switches while also getting back into it themselves. We've heard countless mentions of how the Switch has given people their gaming time back because they can take it anywhere. The Switch 2 or whatever its called is going to be a huge indicator of the future for Nintendo. I think that's why they're reluctant to mention it. I'm very interested in seeing how it fares in comparison. But I do think the handheld market alone is going to boost it significantly.

Its kind of hilarious that it came out when it did. I mean, I certainly didn't think it would be competing with Helldivers 2, yet here we are. The general consensus seems to be "play HD2, its cheaper and better than S&B.." Did not see that coming. Quite the unfortunate turn of events for Ubisoft.

I still think I'll keep an eye on it. I like the ship battles enough to maybe check it out in the future.

I've felt largely the same about anime these days. I've started a few things and fallen off pretty early on. I was actually quite enjoying PLUTO but only watched the first few eps and haven't returned. Been thinking about trying out Jujutsu Kaisen again since it seemed a little more interesting than most of the action stuff out today. I really need to be in the mood these days to watch anime. And I agree wholeheartedly about the current state of it. There's still gems here and there. I kind of like to check in once a year or two and see what's caught on.

As for One Piece, yes and no. You may have seen my posts in a couple threads awhile ago how I started it then stopped it and then started binging the crap out of it. Its still sometimes a background show since it does drag and some of the arcs are just less interesting. Weirdly enough I stopped right in the middle of the Marineford arc, which is arguably the best arc in series. I tend to agree so far. I did watch a ton at a time to get that far so I think I was just a bit burned out. At least when I return I'll get to jump back into some of best stuff. But ya, the mood fell off hard.

It still wild to me that there is gonna be a reboot of One Piece. I sorta wish I hadn't started the old show but I'm too far now to care to wait.

Sidenote: I did really like Blue Eye Samurai, even if it isn't an actual anime. (Peaches? lol)
