I'm baffled by the "people are too impatient for Death Stranding" argument. I fell off the game because it insisted on being a terrible action game half the time. The MULE and BT encounters are mindless, mashy slogs. It's possible that's the point; that Kojima is saying "fine, you want action, here's your action." But as someone who didn't want action, I don't feel provoked to thoughtfulness so much as annoyed at the frequent interruption of an otherwise thoughtful experience.

In conclusion, A Short Hike is the more successful version of Death Stranding.

@brad: Not only did you reveal that there are character-specific codec noises, you vaguely described them! The only reason I even play games is the joy I get from wondering whether I'll encounter a surprise 90s modem-adjacent noise.

@alraiis: Sounds like you have a well-reasoned perspective on the game. It's true that the game's ambitions are relatively unique within the medium, and I'm glad it seems to deliver on those ambitions for many.

Great quick look! Was interested in this, but that writing gets a hard pass from me. People saying that Abby's character roll somehow forced the writers to make multiple self-satisfied callbacks to their own "cock carousel" line in the span of a conversation are on some other shit.

Become the orangutan so you can play the trombone so you can become the gorilla so you can shoot the coconut so you can become the chimp so you can fly the jetpack so you can...

I played a bunch of this game as a kid, but looking back it feels like a cynical satire of collectathons and lock/key game design in general.

Man, I know Giant Bomb's never exactly been a "family" website, but now we're just openly burgling bananas right on the front page?

...excellent.

It seems like most of the comments on GB these days are essentially people arguing about the imagined caricatures of the site's staff that they've developed unhealthy parasocial attachments to. Not that the people who develop those attachments can be entirely blamed, given that the design of the site (and of the modern internet in general) is geared toward feeding them a constant stream of one-way interaction with people they'll likely never meet (and re-enforcing an outsized appetite for said parasocial interactions). Strange days here in our shared series of tubes.

Adding my voice to the chorus of folks calling this one of the best games yet! It so effectively fills me with enthusiasm for forging ahead into an unknown future that I specifically want to say "best game yet" instead of "best game ever."

@genericbrotagonist: He's "former Giant Bombcast" because he's no longer a regular on the Bombcast. He's on the Beastcast.

@thomassomething: Seems appropriate given that the run mechanic has been removed from MK11. Run's out, guns out! Wet Hot American Science.
