That Rules of Golf game almost feels like a parody made years after the fact - when the guy on the CD appeared it was feeling very Monty Python "How not to be seen".

That PUBG lawsuit Jeff mentioned is _insane_ - it hugely oversells everything to the point where it feels like they are just saying "We did it, therefore it is unique". For instance, it refers to the airdrop as "an unprecedented experience in shooter games", and describe the boost as "The “boost” factor is unique to BATTLEGROUNDS, created to provide an additional dimension to the typical health/hit points attributes used in prior games" despite it just being a meter. It also describes location-based damage as if it is novel or copyrightable.

It's also just _wrong_ - "Previous shooter games did not include the use of a frying pan [...] the imaginative treatment of a frying pan as a melee weapon is made even more remarkable [...]" - Left 4 Dead 2 had a frying pan.

RoS almost certainly did copy PUBG (and possibly in an actionable way), but a lot of what PUBG is claiming is ridiculous. For instance, they point out that a Tommy Gun.... looks like a Tommy Gun...: "the “Tommy Gun” submachine gun in BATTLEGROUNDS and the “Thompson” submachine gun in ROS have substantially similar appearances and performance statistics". In totality, it might be enough to say that RoS copied them, but they are claiming individual things that are generic or found in other games as unique. For example, the flying pan is described as:

The use of cookware as a melee weapon is highly uncommon in shooter type games, and Defendants’ use of a frying pan with the same shape and properties as the frying pan introduced in BATTLEGROUNDS was intended to misappropriate Plaintiff PUBG’s unique expression

but the frying pan is damn close to the one in Left 4 Dead 2:

PUBG frying pan from lawsuit
PUBG frying pan from lawsuit
L4D2 frying pan
L4D2 frying pan

As a Scottish person it is oddly comforting to hear, er, the C word so often in a American film.

Also having never seen this film before holy cow that was something else! The soundtracks amazing.

It was oddly refreshing in a sense (English here) - cursing up a storm, and _you're supposed to not like him_, so it just feels like a natural usage, yet so many movies don't go for it.

I also thought the movie was genuinely entertaining - I think there's a point where it crosses a line (around the time they go to the auto shop or the scene with the taxi driver) and starts leaning into it a little too much, but up to that point I thought it was walking that line excellently (_if_ it was done intentionally....).

@danryckert The first Jackbox Party Pack has You Don't Know Jack 2015.

Also "raver folks" is an amazing description.

I think Abby is using a mod or a cheat to make things bigger or smaller, I doubt the vanilla game lets you do it.

At one point, Abby said it was a stock feature so I just assumed it was just in the game (I don't know The Sims 4 though). A quick Google around suggests that it the case at least.

I’ve loved every bit of this series, but appear to be in the minority that didn’t like the back half of this episode that felt like it devolved into “Let’s act like every outrageous YouTuber”

Yeah, it felt the same way to me. GBE usually already has this "youtuber" vibe I'm not really much of a fan, but this one was a bit overboard. It was fun at first but got old quickly. They definitely need Alex in there to keep things on the rails.

For me, the "YouTuber vibe" which is often decried is that you are setting out to be dumb or do a bit. It was maybe a bit much, but this was more that they found a dumb feature and just ran with it, and felt in keeping with GBE.

The crazier thing for me is that they let you make ANYTHING larger or smaller, but there isn't a height slider for Sims. I assumed it was because they had to interact with things, but this episode kinda threw that out of the window.

Guys, tell me if I'm wrong here. The whole Cena/Undertaker surprise fight seemed to me like a completely manufactured drama, planned months in advance. Am I too cynical or is Dan naive?

The impression I got was that Dan knew it was planned, but that it was an interesting (or at least different) narrative to build.

Isn't taxation of lottery winnings simply a way to disincetivize using fake lotteries for large tax-free payouts outside the employment system?

Is the solution there not to regulate the creation of lotteries (so you have to account for income)? And does tax on entries not accomplish the same without unduly burdening the winner (which in the case of a cash price is a non-issue, but for a non-cash prize it certainly can be).

I know it's not exactly the same thing, but "I just like putting the faith in the creators and the people who are producing entertainment" is a slightly weird thing for a critic (albeit of a different medium) to say.

Aniki is "older brother", and it's often used as a term of respect for a more senior/older Yakuza. It's used similar to senpai, in that the concept doesn't necessarily translate easily to English.

Edit: "Nice to michi" for "Yoroshiku-michi" is some A+ translation. Can't wait for this to arrive tomorrow!
