Develop a better sense of self-control and don't buy things impulsively just because the game is hyped up or because your friends tell you to buy it.

I won't be getting either unless it has MMO game mechanics. Fighting AI trainers who do the same thing over and over is boring. Fighting humans who are unpredictable is fun.

I preordered SFV months ago on the PSN Store but then had to sell my PS4 for money recently. Contacted Sony and they refused to refund the preorder. Good ol USA shafting the consumer yet again...

The Giant Bomb staff know video games, but I wouldn't necessarily take life advice from them. Maybe Drew or Vinny...but not this dark shower weirdness.

Also, like they said on the Bombcast, it's a lot more dangerous than it sounds. Imagine getting soap or shampoo in your eyes and then stumbling out of the shower to turn on the light or slipping on soapy water in the process. Just because something sounds fun doesn't mean you should try it. Does skydiving sound fun? Sure, but I know people who are in wheelchairs now because they tried it. So I probably never will, because the brief thrill involved in it is not worth the risk.

The term "video game" is a very outdated term that will probably be replaced sometime in the future in the same way "moving pictures" used to be an adequate descriptor for films when they only showed trains driving by or people boxing. Once they developed storylines, characters, cinematography, and all that, "moving pictures" wasn't an adequate term, so we called them movies or films.

Video games are basically interactive art. If something is art and you can change it with your input, then it's interactive art and disputing whether or not it's a "game" is a petty argument because something doesn't have to be fun or rewarding in order to be meaningful. Is Gone Home fun? Is Telltale's The Walking Dead series rewarding? No, they're not necessarily fun, but they're engaging and emotionally moving, and that's what makes them worth playing.

If you're interested in games that stick to one set of game mechanics, I'd recommend checking out The Swapper.

Already pre-ordered the Oculus. As much as I love Valve, I don't see the Vive sticking around for more than a few years. It's being developed by a company that is more or less bankrupt and has junk stocks. Sure, they might be able to find another company, but Valve has a history of abandoning things if they don't make money.

I tried to load into a Dark Zone match but spawned underneath the world with my guy spasming. Kept reloading that over and over until I quit. I think it might have been due to server maintenance starting when I joined.

PS4 rest mode is great. That feature is actually, true-blue fantastic for me. I love that shit. There are still tons of games (and especially now with PS2 classics) that are all tied to hard saves, so being able to just get up and leave and not keep the PS4 complete on, lose progress, force myself to keep playing etc, is great. So far, I've never come back to find the system somehow error out of resting. System is quiet, power bill is effectively unaffected, yadda yadda yadda. A good deal! I don't have an XBO but I imagine it's a similar deal. That said, I don't use rest mode if I'm going away or I know I won't be playing games a while. However I have noticed my PS4 tends to throw a hissy fit when it gets shut down and always slaps me on the wrist about it, even though I've done nothing wrong.

No, it uses a lot of power for only a minor amount of convenience.

So that article says running your PS4 24/7/365 will cost you a measly 8 dollars a year? (and that's on on, not rest mode) Or am I unable to read anymore? That seems like a great deal. From a power consumption perspective it's still definitely too much used, but I think for Joe Consumer the cost is negligible on its own. Though to be fair, power concerns are about more than what it costs us per month.

Yes, and most people don't seem to care that using extra power puts extra CO2 into the air which hastens our inevitable death by climate change, but I guess that's just the American way now.

Surprised they're only making it available for those that pre-ordered. You'd think they would make it available to everybody to get more people interested.

No one is entitled to have the option of trying something for free before they buy it.
