I'm finally playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Bought it at launch and played for about an hour as a bunch of stuff happened that meant I didn't have time to really get into it. Put a half-hour in here or there, but decided to really dig in over this past weekend.

I'm in love with it.

There's some jankiness in places, sure, but the feeling that I can just jump on my horse and ride into the great wide open for a few hours and find some interesting things to see or do is irresistible. That feeling is missing from the vast majority of open-world games, for me. I haven't stumbled across a single repeating side quest (so far) and that's refreshing. Plus it looks really nice on XOX, so I've been playing with photo mode a fair bit.

I'm still only about 22% through in terms of story progress, but I'm well and truly hooked. I didn't think it would happen, but it's one of those times that I'm kicking myself for not playing it properly sooner.

I only picked up Sayonara Wild Hearts in January. So...I'm bending the rules and going with that. :D

I've cut through a fair few titles that were in my "To Play" list, yeah. I work from home anyway, so I haven't had any change to working conditions. But the time I would usually be hanging out with friends has been dedicated to finally working through the backlog a bit. Finally started and got halfway through RDR2. Also played through My Memory of Us, Demon's Tilt, Metal Wolf Chaos XD, Overcooked 2, VASARA Collection, Raiden V, SOR4, Slay the Spire, Boling Bolt, GRIDD: Retroenhanced, and a bunch of really short games.

I tried Apex but I just not for me, it feels like your either have long stretches of nothing or instand death and load screen watching.

THANK YOU. I thought I was insane. Everybody I know is constantly rambling on about how great it is. I've gave it plenty of time at launch and I just don't feel it. I roam about for 10 minutes, then BANG...dead. Then wait for ages to go through the process again. I never seem to get a chance to improve as I've barely got a millisecond to locate the opponent and take aim, let alone fire off any shots.

At least with other shooters, I can start out by being terrible and then slowly get to the point of being average-ish. Even if I go 0-40 in a round, I might then go 1-36, then 2-31 and so on until I feel like I'm holding my own, and I'm actively playing the game the entire time. Clearly folks like Apex - and more power to them if they're having fun - but I just don't see it.

I had this issue with Hunt: Showdown, which a few friends roped me into buying a few days ago. We played two games, and both went spectacularly sour rather quickly. I understand that with time and patience, the game's good parts would reveal themselves - but I don't feel like spending dozens of hours losing before I "get good" (read: start having fun). The training convinced me that a single player story-driven version could be one of the best stealth-action games ever, but sadly I don't think we'll ever see that happen.

I was given a copy of Hunt: Showdown last week and haven't gotten round to firing it up, yet. I didn't know it was a similar thing, so you've saved me some time there. :D Thanks!

I think it's a good idea, depending on pricing.

If Sony drops the all-digital version of the PS5 at $50 less than the console with the drive, Microsoft could run in and drop the Xbox Series S (or whatever it will be called) at $100 or $150 less than that.

Bundle a year of Game Pass in at retail as a discounted upsell and you've got the holiday season winner. Purchases by parents and grandparents alone would win that title for Microsoft.

If you're looking for a first person shooter with a community approaching decent.... I don't know what to tell you. There don't seem to be any. I wouldn't touch one without a group of friends along for the ride.

Seconded. Most of my real-world friends stick with a game for about five minutes before playing something else, so really getting into an online FPS with a group of them is borderline impossible. Tried playing with randoms a bunch across dozens of different titles, and there's always at least ONE total asshat who ruins it for everyone else.

About the most fun I had was with Titanfall 2, as there aren't that many ways that your teammates can screw you up in that game. Though the flipside to that is that there's not often a great deal of teamwork required, either.

I look at them occasionally to clear them out, as the sheer number of them that are just a black screen with the trophy notification on it is hilarious. In a "how has nobody fixed this after all these years?" level of hilarious kind of way.

Yes, those are indeed some of the console's more popular games.

Been putting money away each month for about 18 months, so I should be able to swing whatever price Microsoft and Sony finally decide to charge, especially when I sell my PS4 Pro and XOX. With that said, over £500 apiece would be eyebrow-raising.
