" This might not be a fair point to bring up, but this whole thing screams Virtual Boy to me. While the specific configuration of that system was indeed flawed, it sorta reminded me that none of the games on the Virtual Boy really used the 3D in a meaningful way. "
Well despite the fact that the virtual boy lacked the power to do polygonal 3D virtual boy Wario Land did use the effect well to go in the background, but as something that predates the N64 and analog sticks the virtual boy has little to do with what we could get from 3D now.

You guys really lack imagination.
You know how in 3D Marios it can be a bitch to hit jumps exactly? with 3D you can do that. You know how in games where you're flying, like starfox or pilotwings you've gotta fly precisely or you've gotta fly through rings, or galaxy 2 where you're flying on that bird it can be hard to judge distances and fly well. I've never really found flying games to be fun, but I could see them being fun if you can see it in 3D. Hell you remember flying in Mario 64? Yeah that was a pain in the ass!

I'm not sure how much difference 3D would make in an FPS. can you? I think that Sony was trying some of that stuff, but they didn't have it really nailed down yet. But there's some crazy augmented reality stuff going on with the 3DS like that "Face Ace" demo since you can pick up the system and it'll bring what the camera can see into the game. seems really interesting.

But if you're not interested, that's why you don't know anything about the system. So you'll really miss out on the 3DS and what it will offer, I'm excited for it, I've been looking into the information for it. It's everything that they've said it is, and it will be awesome.

Well given that they're pretty conservative with the graphics (ie look at the kingdom hearts screens, that's definitely PS2 level) and they could have gone with better quality graphics, but worse battery.   I would guess Kid Icarus is something that they really wanted to show off to get the fanboys in a tizzy, but it sure doesn't look as good as some of those screens from other games)

Anyway given the graphics I'm damn sure they are shooting for $199 or less.

Got my fingers crossed that Nintendo will save this E3.
all this ridiculous stuff from microsoft, and Sony promising to do the same... only the creators of the motion-pocalyps can save us from it!

You know, while I have zero interest in what they showed, at least they made a solid showing, of stuff that surprised absolutely no one...

So, I know most of the stuff they've thus far shown in 3D on the PS3 have been FPSs, or racing games, But I was just thinking that one of the genres most in need of 3D would be platformers.

Just think about it, the most frustrating part of any 3D Mario is judging jumps precisely, and many a 3rd person action game has failed miserably when they tried to do platforming. I mean Tomb Raider is a heavy offender. I even think that perhaps it would make platforming in an FPS viable. I mean the platforming mostly worked in Metroid Prime, but that was an exception, as a rule first person platforming is bad (case in point: mirrors edge)

So I will make it clear that I don't think that 3D will go anywhere on consoles, current solutions are too expensive and too unwieldy. If the virtual boy taught us anything it's that a bad solution is worse than no solution. I mean people's chief complaint about 3D with glasses is their eyes feel tired. Now they may not solve the problem with the 3DS, but I think that it's the perfect space to try it. The great thing with portables is that most people don't play them for hours without stop,so even if there is eye-strain it won't be a big problem.

I also think that a portable is a great place to start for trying out ideas of how to use 3D. I mean you're not going to get very crazy with your multi-million dollar game on the consoles, but if you've got a small team working on a 3DS game, or downloadable game then they can take all kinds of crazy risks.

I've got to say I'm really hyped for the 3DS, we still haven't found out much about it, but I'm quite interested in what we have heard thus far.

One has to wonder what kind of reaction they would have gotten had they been able to keep this under their hats until E3. I mean it would have been a huge megaton! But on the other hand they've given people a while to fantasize about what this system could be, what it will do and what games they might put on it. I think that kind of mystery can really help the hype for a system. I guess both Apple and Nintendo believe in keeping things under wraps... and certainly they've both been doing something right these last few years, so who am I to say that keeping things wrapped up tight isn't always the best way to do things.

As long as there aren't any clear design flaws that necessitate a DSlite kind of revision, I will be getting a 3DS as soon as I humanly can.

I've heard rumors of an Animal Crossing at launch, and even though I was not disappointed in animal crossing for the Wii (Though I still got a lot of play time out of it.) I've gotta say that I would really dig animal crossing in 3D.

But then it seems that I am a sucker for anything in 3D.  but I'm thinking that it would make catching bugs easier.

I'd like to see Zelda on the 3DS, it'd be pretty cool for puzzles.

a sidescrolling mario, would be pretty cool too. cuz parallax and 3D could be pretty sweet.

I'd also love a side-scrolling castlevania, with some polygonal action. I think they'd be forced to move away from the 2d sprites they've used for nearly twenty years.

ooh, and since Square hasn't been doing well at final fantasy games lately, maybe they could put some re-makes on the 3DS, but I don't really care what they use. I could be happy with FF1  with no real changes to the gameplay, but some really awesome 3D graphics.

Obviously Mario Kart will be really really sweet, and we know it'll be out within the first year of the system's life.

Yeah, also some crazy ass gradius game would be sweet...

and imagine 8-bit games in 3D. like Megaman 10 and you have these flat 2D sprites in 3D space... that could be awfully cool.

Dude, I trust Kotaku and their blog posts from anonymous Chinese bloggers. I totally trust them, like my own family...

Why the fuck don't they, y'know, put a link to the actual blog?  especially when the guys at Kotaku do such a poor job of translating.

Kotaku = spectacular fail on journalism.

So I'm listening to Weekend confirmed episode 12, Garnet lee is...well I guess he's the only good part of the show, but hey maybe the sess can improve the show.

I think without the John davison and um Sony fany, what's his name err... ignition entertainment guy... without them Garnet just can't carry a show.

well Sessler has a scary fuckin laugh. He sounds like an old dude or something, actually truthfully his regular speaking voice is pretty frickin strange.

and now they're talking about penis...
