the game things you know in 2015 that i did beat

whoa all these games i'm gonna and have finish(ed) in 2015. whoa. in no particular order because i forget what ones i've beaten first. who knows maybe i've forgotten some right now as i write with a w this. will give the game rating at the end because whatever. also the formatting and everything will be bonkers because i don't feel like being an english major. also things can get long because i don't know how to shorten what i say apparently

List items

  • one of my favourite games, had a hankering to play this game once more. as usual it was a blast and i just love EVERYTHING about it still.

    10/10 best game points

  • where the fairy flies, i actually bought this near the end of december 2014 but it counts since i beat it this year shush.

this game was pretty fun, story was eh but i luckily don't care if a game has a shit story as long as it is fun. although i sadly got spoilered while i was looking at 34. what? it has job systems so i had fun grinding forever mastering most of them. the freelancer's passive thing was every job mastered, stats go up by 10% and i wanted to find out if it got super powerful if i mastered all the jobs. i didn't end up doing it but got all the way up to level 99 pretty quickly. also i missed a job.

oh this game was also easy as hell, i had to crank it up to hard which i never do in RPGs.

    7/10 good game points

  • i decided to play some of the dragons quest games after watching Darren from Vinesauce stream DQ8. a person in the chat said everybody likes DQV and that i should avoid (not directly to me but you know) DQIV so i started with 5. i didn't really feel like playing the older games for whatever reason.

this game was really fun and now i enjoy dragons quest games, a series which i knew existed but i didn't ever check out. the visuals were amazing, all the enemies looked cool and were animated really well. music was pretty good, nothing too spectacular. gameplay and characters all that were great too.

    8.5/10 great game points

  • yep guess what i also played this one too. was actually shorter than V i found because i beat it pretty quickly.

this one had job systems, oh baby i was flying.

music in this was better than V for sure, had some real rad jams. characters i'm not sure i liked more than V but i definitely did love them.

    8/10 great game points

  • replayed this game because Persona Q was coming out in a few days at the time and i needed to tide myself over before i played that amazing game. once i got Q i stopped playing and eventually came back to it recently.

fun game, i think i liked it more that i new game plus-ed because i felt a lot of enjoyment wrecking everything. but turns out i actually missed something and i played a new part and i was actually not over-leveled anymore. it may have been the specific path i chose this time that did it i'm not sure. i now want the second devil survivor which is getting a nice rework for the 3ds at some point (maybe it's come out?).

can't wait to hear the 5 or so voice actors that are always in shin megami games again (i'm okay with it i just am noticing this stuff now).

    8.5/10 great game points

  • okay so here's the thing, i am REALLY not sure when i beat this, i either did it just before 2015 or right in the beginning. i've just decided to put it here.

holy hell this game was amazing, seeing all the characters from 3 and 4 together, playing WITH SHINJIRO YEAAAAAAH!! oh jeeze it was an amazing time, just everything about the game.

now i did have problems at 3 points with puzzle aspects because of reasons. i played the P3 side because Persona 3 is one of my favourite games (i find it waaay better than 4, although it could be because i watched the endurance run long ago when i didn't know about Persona but i still think i'd like 3 more) and also SHINJIRO.

however i am sad that the P4 side had way better regular battle music. but that means i can play the P4 side in a few years when i get back to the game.

    9.5/10 Shinjiro points

  • this here game was gifted by my friend and fellow clan member Ajayraz.

now before i played this i had no idea Persona Q was related to Etrian (in terms of maze-style gameplay). once i played Etrian i found that out so i was going on mostly blind except i was more familiar with the game because I played Q prior to this.

right off the bat, you choose your team. but then i was surprised because it wasn't "hey here are these dudes whom you will be acquainted with as the game goes on maybe you'll meet more later" but me choosing from a list of classes (wooo job systems). all classes have different styles of dudes too, which was really cool, they even have alternate colours.

well there were people you got to know in the game, and i guess depending on what you choose some can join you because they happen to be new classes. but once i got them on my team i forgot about them and they barely make any appearance after for me to care about them. the only people you'll fully care about are the people in the shops, mission giving places, etc...

...aaand depending on how your brain works you are you can make your party members have personality too. even the game sometimes throws a little event that can help you flesh them out or whatever. in the end the only real character i ended up giving a lot of personality to was my tank, Douglas. mostly because the name Douglas has a backstory to me already.

Douglas is the name of the sacred god-tree, which happens to also be every tree in existence. Douglas is everywhere, even where there are not trees. Those who follow Douglas closely, aka The Children of Douglas (although every living being is a child of Douglas), are named Douglas. You cannot be a priest (or any higher ranking of The Children of Douglas) without being named Douglas.

Now, the highest ranking Douglas who has spent his whole life worshiping Douglas decided to aid a young Guildmaster of Clan Zergmar (it's what i named it) in his quest to (something something story i actually forget). His role is to protect all those who need it. Douglas is not a fighter, oh no, he is a pacifist (i made Douglas a super-tank so having him hit something would do no damage at all) he is only there to cover his team. This is because the final goal of The Children of Douglas is to become a Douglas themselves, they will join with Douglas. This means they will at some point be immobilized and transform into a tree, a Douglas. For Douglas to become as hard as the hardest, unbreakable thing that exists in the world (which is unknown due to the story i made reasons) he must train to take any blow that may come his way.

...huh? oh hey. yeah so this was a great game and i will definitely get any more Etrains that come out and also some old ones maybe.

  • so my friend Ajay lent me this game because he did, i never played any of the previous games and i wanted to expand my knowledge of turn based (J)RPGs. i say turn based because hack and slash isn't my type of thing.

it started off with me already not liking the main character, which is never a good sign. i think it was because he was talking about heroes and shit despite being a demon.

eventually i noticed that the same voice actor who did Junpei was Mao so i kinda let him grow on me. plus he started talking about defeating the overlord to become the greatest demon and i'm all about evil in games. so i got into the story because i was an evil dude, something that i don't think i've seen a JRPG do (oh yeah you can be a bastard in Devil Survivor, i forgot about that). i want more games where i'm an evil fuck and i'm just being a bastard the whole time and wrecking everybody who i don't like. there's something about being evil in games that brings me joy, maybe i'm actually evil i wouldn't really know would i?

yep it was going well, i was having fun with the game and mmmmmmmmmmmm job systems and stat allocation my favourite things for whatever reason and it was great. but then i get further and meet more characters and the story takes a complete turn. this will probably get to spoiler territory so there's a warning also i'm going to complain a lot.

"oh boy i can't wait to be evil as hell" i say to myself with glee, "i'm sure nothing will change that at all!" but fuck me in the mouth with nails, these assholes have to ruin it. so first you meet Raspberryl or however it's spelled. she's a demon who doesn't act like a demon. eh you know whatever i actually didn't mind her character, she is also voiced by somebody REALLY familiar but i never was able to place it and it drove me slightly insane.

just me and mr. bites! that quote kept ringing in my head and i'm not sure if it was a quote that exists or if the same voice actor even did that. who's mr. bites? why can't i remember!!!!

anyway yeah she's followed by two other "badasses" (that's what they call themselves) who i never used they're not really important.

then there's ALMAZ. this BITCH... this... IDIOT! this mother fucker right here i DESPISE! how dare he essentially try and make Mao not evil the whole time, he has to show the fuck up and help ruin everything and be an idiot asshole fuck this guy. he's voiced by another guy i can't quite place.

he's searching for the princess that he was a guard for blah blah he has to protect her he's a hero blah blah yadda yadda spoiler they get married

the princess is Sapphire (who is the voice actor of Nanako from P4) and she is a bit insane, which i liked but the fact that she even liked Bitchmaz (you find that out later yes i know i spoiled it over there) made me hate her too. she was also a terrible character gameplay wise, utter trash.

so i'm not getting to my point, the point is the game ends up being all this bullshit about friendship. LITERALLY the power of friendship. i mean in real life i love my friends and i'd do anything i can for them but that's not what i'm in it for when you present me with demons and shit. fuck this story, god awful, all it is is some bullshit "don't be evil you SHIT" or at least not as evil as i wanted because Mao is still a little evil in ways but not even close to any great way (although i still enjoy him a little bit). it becomes some sappy bullshit the whole way. yes i keep repeating myself i just... man... i thought i had a game i could just be evil as hell in.

there's not any choice in this game, which for some reason i thought there would be. you just go through with what the game tells you even if you hate it.

anyway i hated most of the characters, i guess my favourite was Salvatore due to her being real dominatrix-ish (from what i remember) and had a fake????? accent that was nice. what? what!?

oh yeah gameplay. real fun and was great. i have nothing bad to say about it. animations were fun too i like that it's all in sprite style and such my favourite animation was the hurricane slash?

uh.... yeah so i'm lost but here's a score WHOA THIS IS LONG

  • well shit i finally got to playing this, 1 computer and graphics card later. i completely forget how the other games played but all i know is that i really enjoyed both 1 and 2. anyway those are different games.

i had a fun with this one, however it seemed filled mostly with moments of nothing really going on. okay by nothing i mean maybe story and you just exploring the world of Columbia or whatever it is called. but i dunno it felt like there was not enough action.

blasting people in the face was fun and trying different guns was alright (however i mainly used maybe 4 or so guns regularly, the most being the shotgun). however a lot of the guns were super similar and maybe didn't need to exist. also who used the heater? that thing was useless.

the power things, vigors? i barely used more than 2 once i got certain things. my favourite one is the move where you can grab people from far away and bind them for a bit so you can remove their heads with your shotgun. the other one i used was the fire. sometimes i used the shock but eh i stopped right away. although whenever you picked up a new vigor it was the greatest thing to see the little animations they made. i thought those were really hilarious and well drawn.

so i'm not sure about other's experiences but man were there a lot of bugs and weird stuff going on. uh this may be tiny spoilers???? i dunno be warned.

at random points, mainly after the game loaded an area Elizabeth would just glide across the ground like she was ice skating for awhile, which would ruin the immersion and i would both laugh and be a bit frightened. also her dress would spaz out, that happened maybe once. being close when catching something she throws would also fuck up animations, not to mention the fact that she teleports where ever she pleases, even if you just saw her to the right of you naw she wants to be behind you 7 feet away.

    no more maybe spoilers here.

there was a random time where a dead body ragdoll blasted (stretching EVERY limb like crazy while they spaz out) all it's parts into the sky and was never seen again. now that was funny as hell but still, breaks you from the game. i think those are all the weird things i can think of right now. i'm not sure why but i thought things would be never glitchy.

my least favourite part of this game was when you fought a ghost, that sucked.

also i enjoyed the skyline things because it was fun.

so oh yeah shit, i did not expect at all the way that world was gonna be. i don't remember the way things were in the other bioshock games but shit they really threw some stuff in here. by that i mean how the society is, not the act that it's a sky world. i didn't really know much about this game other than bioshock.

anyway i had a fun time, i can tell why people were talking about the ending. it was cool and interesting and confusing slightly (or a lot) although not the best ending ever but still really good.

also DeWitt is a dumbass name

    7/10 DeWitts

  • technically you can't really beat this game, but i beat levels so why not.

cool game i spent 80 dollars on it which i wish they put it out for 40 dollars but whatever i bought it anyway.

there are missing things from the games that kinda suck but it doesn't matter really because there's so much content in it that you don't fully need them

i hope dlc is free though, although i guess it doesn't really need dlc.

i can't make levels sadly because i was never good at doing that.

    10/10 marios

  • wow so this game is pretty much as good as everybody says.

i do have my problems with it, but it's mainly just tiny parts that don't 100% matter.

music is top friggen notch, tracks that pump you up and i even choked up/cried because of like 2 songs. (one was because i started off with a genocide run and well it'd be spoilers to say when the song came up and why i cried let's just say regret)

one thing though is the gameplay, although very very similar whether you murder everybody or not, it's way more fun to battle when you plan to kill. you can "act" during battle to try and persuade the enemy not to tear you apart, which is how you go about not killing. the music helps with this since it's so intense i always have a "i gotta destroy this enemy" mentality, especially during boss fights.

characters (when you're not tearing their guts out with a toy knife or even ballet shoes) are all pretty cool and if you get to know them better the more you don't actually want to kill them at all. well, unless you hated a character then that's another thing. i probably wont ever play this game to murder them again because i kinda love them all. then again my mind changes quickly.

i'm pretty happy i started off with murder because you don't really get to do that often in JRPGS (yeah i know it's not from Japan). evil is one of the things i hope for in a game because i always just end up being good either way and i like to be a bastard in video games sometimes.

    game's pretty funny too.

oh yeah, of course the battle system that isn't act. it mixes three gameplay elements in battle; turn based combat, whatever the attack system is called in the GB colour game Resident Evil: Gaiden and bullet hell. which holy hell this combination works so well, or at least i enjoyed it a heck of a lot. like man i kinda want more battle systems like this. also they did something cool with credits (on the pacifist run) that you don't see anywhere as far as i know, which is way more interesting than just kinda tuning out as the credits roll.

so yeah i'm glad i experienced this and was liking the combat because i heard some people didn't like the battles.

    9/10 emotions

  • one of my favourite games ever, with one of my favourite OSTs ever. this game is the best paper mario by far. sadly they haven't released a paper mario anything that could come close to this. super paper mario? a fun game, but not how i wanted it to be. sticker star? sorry that doesn't actually exist it's a illusion by the devil to torture you.

    anyway yeah

    10/10 papers

  • in preparation for Fallout 4 at the time (i forgot to add this to the list before 4 came out), i played through Fallout 3 again. kind of a thing most people would do for a sequel to a game they enjoy a ton.

it's always fun going to the cool areas like the vaults because of how interesting they were. of course the story is mediocre but playing through it is always fun, with a better graphics card too so it runs friggen smooth as hell, something which i haven't actually done until recently.

anyway i can't really say much opinion on this one now because i played this a few months ago and i don't remember how i felt really.

it was great to see Fawkes again though.

  • Good old Luigi's Mansion. One of my favourite games of all time and one game I try to go through once every year near Halloween.

This game is so great, I love everything about it. So playing through it again was no short of fun. I don't know my record for clearing this game but i 100%-ed it in 4 hours give or take. It's one of the few games that I just kinda know everything about when I play it.

    10/10 of Luigi's Mansions

  • So the big 4 of the Fall-outs. How did it end up?

    Well it was slightly disappointing.

Alright now, I can't say I don't like the game, because I've played this game for 208 hours according to steam as I write this. I've also restarted my game twice(?) and am on my third playthrough of the game. During all these saves I have had a fun time and the game still keeps bringing me back in.

Because of those reasons I'm not really sure I can say it's a disappointment to me because of how much I'm playing it but I'm saying that anyway.

They changed a lot of things, some for the better and some for the worse.

The main one is the gameplay and more specifically the combat. Holy hell they improved it so much from 3/New Vegas. It is SO fun shooting people in this game. They've added freaking dismemberment, which is fucking rad as hell and I love it. Sure you only really dismember feral ghouls most of the time unless you use explosives or get an item with something I'll get to.

The addition of legendary items is pretty cool too, because getting a weapon that explodes right on somebody when you shoot them is great. How they handle the way legendary enemies work could have been a bit more creative and they probably could have done some cool things. Legendary enemies just have a second wind once you hit past half their health, they heal fully and you gotta shoot 'em more. I think they also do more damage???? Not really sure. They could have made some different models or something and make them different somehow. But maybe i'm just asking for too much it's fine.

Weapon and armor customization, great addition along with naming anything. Can you name the armor? I haven't tried doing that. But it's cool to come up with a weapon you'll have most of your game that you'll become attached to.

SO bad stuff because I can't think of other good things at the moment.

A tiny thing, getting power armor and a minigun so early in the game (provided you go with the story for a little bit) made it kinda meh to have. Hell I rarely use the power armor anyway, I always worry about running out (despite having like 80 at a time eventually). Plus the UI for it in my opinion is WAAAY too in the way of the game it just seems really big and distracting. That's probably only me, maybe because of my monitor size? I dunno. However I do like how they changed how power armor just is. Now it actually seems like an important and bulky thing instead of just hey its slightly more armor like in 3/Vegas. I think Fallouts 1 and 2 had the way, where the armor actually looked bulky and huge and something you wouldn't want to mess with.

Well here's a big problem, the story and pretty much a lot of the locations in Fallout 4. The main story, or at least the one you're presented with, is literally just Fallout 3's but reversed. I would get into it but it'd be spoilers plus there's a whole thread on the forums that goes into how dumb the story is, at least the endings. Plus, it completely ruins the RPG that Fallout is supposed to be by making you married with a kid at the start. It's like, "well okay I guess I'm just this now, I can't be my own person really when I know all this stuff." I mean sure yeah in 3 you were looking for your dad and in Vegas you were tracking a dude who fucked your delivery, but you were still your own person. New Vegas especially because you're literally just a postal worker and that's all they give you.

I thought of the idea that you begin the game in a vault, say like Vault 6. You're just a normal resident whatever everything is okay. But oh no! Some shit's going down! But why? Oh hell you're trying your best to escape the slaughter or whatever is going on, you find out "SHIT! Vault-Tec was just experimenting on us the whole time and caused this or something ahhh!" and you escape the vault, everybody in there is dead. You are the only survivor, but what awaits you in the wasteland you see before you? Then you go on from there, no main objective, you just fucking go. Do what you do.

    Anyway Vault talk time.

They really fucked up there. Out of ALL vaults you find (which there is one less of compared to 3) there's only one that is interesting and that's if you do a quest line and maybe another one that's pretty funny. Otherwise all the vaults are fucking boring and live up to nothing that was the vaults of 3 or even New Vegas'. TWO of the vaults have the SAME enemies inside. WHAT IS THAT?! Okay sure I don't remember much of the old vaults but they were way more varied than these fucking ones. Holy hell I was so excited to go through vaults before this game came out, it's one of the best parts of the Fallout games. And then it's all completely ruined. Anyway I'm just exaggerating and I know but that's how I feel. That has to be one of the most disappointing things this game could have done to me.

Alright okay whoa... I'm alright. All good. I can continue.

Building in this game. If there was something I wanted to be frustrated on then I could just do some building. One of my saves, the most recent one, I decided to focus mainly on building settlements and such. You know it's actually kinda fun, I didn't really mind and I was having a cool new experience with the game that I didn't delve into the other times. But man that building has a bunch of problems

Mainly the snapping function, good god the snapping. "Ah you want this thing this way? NOPE IT ONLY CONNECTS HERE AND HERE BUT NOT THIS PLACE." "Want that to connect to the other thing? No sorry that's not possible." There's junk fences which don't connect to each other except for the gate, leaving big gaps and making it look crap and having to patch up walls with some other small walls and ahhhhhh.

Sometimes things wouldn't even clonk on the ground but then when you exit the building and enter it works sometimes???? Fuck it. It's cool to create building but the process is a nightmare most of the time.

Okay so the level up system. There's no longer a cap. Hey that's cool, nice. But oh you're... removing a lot of RPG elements there hey uh... no that's oh okay... a chart huh?

Yeah... now I can say that I'm really glad I don't have to repair my weapons or armor, let me tell ya. But man they really scrapped a lot of fun stuff you could do with your skills. Removing all the speech, science, explosive, etc. Alright okay, you can tell me that in 3 you could pretty much just max everything and actually be good at everything, especially with the DLC. But that took time, even then you'd still have your main perks that you earned from putting points into your main focused skills. In 4, I can blow a guy up with explosives no problem despite having no perks upping the damage. In 3 if I did that it'd do pointless damage and you'd not even bother.

Anyway this thing is WAY too long and I'll stop.

Fun game, has a lot of problems, probably hyped myself too much, glitches get pretty annoying with the way dialog is handled and pushing you away or just plain fucking waking away from you and fuck man this could have been such a better game.

    7/10 disappointments.
