Well hey, at least I won't be the only one with FFIX at the top of their list this year! I can't believe I can still find new NPC sidestories and stuff going on in that game after, what, 5 extensive playthroughs? I really do hold that game up as an example of everything I want out of an FF game, and it really is a shame we'll probably never get another one quite like it (although I enjoyed World of Final Fantasy as a humorous, fan-servicy thing that actually has some great turn-based combat and gameplay progression-- even if they did completely fuck up Vivi).

Hey, we mentioned this on the podcast, but is "Bobby Corwen" some sort of reference? It is such a specific name for a chicken that we all thought it was a reference we did not know the origin to.
As far as I could find, it's Bobby Corwen, "Boco", a reference to a chocobo from FFV called "Boko". Everything about that name screams "REFERENCE", although I always thought it was some country singer the localization team liked until I looked it up on the wiki.
I think you're right about it being a Boko reference. It's also going to be the name of whatever bird I get if I get a bird.
@randombullseye: She's actually a fan of Peggle and Bejeweled, but I wanted to specifically try to get her into more "traditional" games than puzzle games that I knew would be a quick fit.
@hargrimm: I'm aware of how dark FFIX throws and I'm not sure how my Nonna will respond to it. I'm hoping that it might be more cathartic than upsetting. I did try introducing her to some other, more conventional starter games. However, her issues there were a lot more common than the language issues I saw with the games I wrote about. Like she had a hard time with the motion controls in Nintendo Land.
@pierre42: That's incredible. I'd love to hear how he likes Journey. I was thinking of playing it with my Nonna, but I didn't have access to my PS3 at the time. Its certainly on the top of my list of games to introduce people to video games.

@amyggen: Yep. All of his nonsense makes me so much happier to follow the NBA. At least when they make mistakes I can see the logical through-line. Their decisions advance their interests, engage their fans, or cater to their players. The NFL just seems to drunkenly stumble through scandal after scandal, improvising crimes and punishments as they go based on the severity of public outrage.

Yeah, I'm not a Football fan but I've found Deflategate interesting so I've followed it pretty closely, and it seems clear that most impartial experts on the subject side with it being total bullshit. And as a lawyer I have to say that NFL's whole process has been an absolute travesty.
The craziest part is that their process isn't even getting better! How can you remain this incompetent at basic investigation and discipline season after season? How?
