My Top Ten Games of 2016

List items

  • Great total war campaign style that I know and love combines with the criminally underrated Warhammer Fantasy setting to create one of the most compelling strategy games ever made. Genuinely unique factions, battles that are a complete spectacle and the sheer scale makes this one a must play.

  • Thrilling singleplayer campaign with smooth and intesne gameplay at its beating heart. Doom is a little long but its not afraid to push players with waves of aggressive demons and it does not let up its rollercoaster ride. Perfect example of what single player shooters could, and should, be in modern gaming.

  • Haunting visuals combine with a subtle audio and simple but pleasing gameplay mechanics to create this dark joy. Some very chilling sequences and level design take it to the gold standard smaller games. The major complaint I have is the sudden and halting ending to an otherwise great experience.

  • Excellent characters with natural interactions that build on the themes of the entire series and stunning visuals. However, bullet sponge enemies, dull combats and a pace that is largely boring left this something of a disappointment for me.

  • First game of the year I played to completion. Very good middle section, with some strong character interactions. Disappointing ending and story conclusions, but overall one of the stronger "walking simulators" I have played.
