i think the old school visuals allow your brain to fill in the blanks which kinda works for me in adventure games. That is why i thought the portraits that come up (when people talk) look a bit out of place because they clash with the image i had created in my head (if that makes any sense).

But yeah the visuals are definately part of the appeal.

i thought Medal of Honor: Airborne had the best cover/leaning system i have ever seen in a console first person shooter.

and

i found MSG4's writing to be mindblowingly immature.

i can see "At the Mountains of Madness"  as being a great minimal indie game.  Make it Now!

Dwarf Fortress is great and has a lot of digging and building in it. It also generates maps and it doesnt really have a specific goal other than survival (which doesnt really last long).  It is so complicated though... and has nothing really in common with games like Spelunky...  oh well!

i find it really hard to believe that people pirate a game, install it, play it for a bit and then while they still have a working copy of the game on their computer stop playing and go out to buy a new legit copy. The argument sounds more like an excuse for people asked about their illegal dealings to me.

theres a game called Battlecruiser Millenium which i think you can even get for free on the internet. I havent played it but apparently it is an amazingly ambitious (and amazingly broken) space combat/trading game thing where i believe you can walk around planets as well. These games usually have communities that support them so maybe it is not broken anymore?

yep the setting of DI seems more interesting to me than GOW3. That being said i will go for the super-controversial opinion that i want both to be good so that we can all enjoy both.
