This affiliate link outrage reminds me a lot of people being up in arms whenever a real product appears in a movie. God forbid that an Apple logo be visible on screen, someone drink a Pepsi, or a Wal-Mart be destroyed during a fight scene. Is the fear that you're going to be tricked into buying a thing that you don't want, need, or even like just because you saw it/became aware of its existence? I mean, if you're that easy to manipulate, then that's on you. Do what you want, obviously, but this shouldn't be worth more than an eyeroll at best.
Also: didn't Persona 4, a good game, and Deadly Premonition, a bad game, "randomly" leap to the top of Amazon's sales charts when GB was playing them on the site? Seems like trying to get a little bit of side cash for such a phenomena is fair and reasonable.
As for Sonic Frontiers, it's fine. Running around the open world is kind of fun. The traditional linear, levels, though? Eh, I hope that they get better, but I'm only like 2 hours in.
Got about 15 minutes in. This is just completely over my head. Don't hate it, though.
I saw that the runtime is 2 hours and it is astonishing that a human could keep this going for that long with no breaks, alone. Props to Windbag for that.
@av_gamer: Not true. If it were, then you wouldn't have Sutherland voicing Big Boss in all of the instances where there is no confusion over which character is which (such as the entirety of Ground Zeroes).
Hayter eventually revealed that he had to re-audition for the role of Solid Snake/Big Boss for every game, implying that Kojima had been trying to replace him since MGS2. Then for Phantom Pain, Hayter just flat out wasn't contacted (he found out about the game, called them, and was told that he wasn't needed), presumably because they had already secured Sutherland. That star fetish that Kojima is known for ain't nothing new.
For as much as we all may love certain actors in certain roles, it just isn't that important to a video game. I've never been thrilled with Reuben Langdon as Dante post DMC3 but it sure as hell isn't enough to get me to drop one of my absolute favorite franchises.
The fascinating/fun thing about Dan is that he asks these incredibly stupid questions, but then nobody can actually answer them with confidence. I remember when he asked about how butter was made on a Beastcast and I, personally, knew that churning was involved and that's about it. Fuck, I wasn't even totally sure that it was considered a dairy product. It's fortunate that he's such a good sport about his "ignorance."
Side note: Thank you SO MUCH for making me aware of Channel 5. I fell deep down that rabbit hole. Their shit is amazing and puts a horrifying lens on us all.
@chrisflavin:I think that Extralife that year was the first collaboration, which I chalked up to it being for charity, and I'm pretty sure that the Neon White thing was next. So they've been few and far between.
@darkholmme:I see it as everyone trying to establish and build their own brand. If all of the departed staff are just going to immediately and constantly collaborate with Giant Bomb, then what was the point of leaving in the first place, you know? Makes sense to go out there and become your own separate pillar before coming back to visit.
Dan dropped the ball by not stipulating that all items procured to get to the desert be discarded beforehand, but, hey, still a really fun and silly idea. More of this nonsense, please. I love the friendly competition.
God, my grandma bought that same Sonic stuff animal for me at the Software Etc in the mall. Sonic merch back then was so rare that I lost my mind when I saw it. Mom wouldn't get it, but that's what Grandmas are for. I took that thing with me everywhere for quite some time. He has since taken up residency on my dresser (with Tails beside him).
The GTA leak is bad, I guess, but I reminds me of the bygone era of seeing early/cut stuff from games in magazine previews and I've always loved that peak behind the curtain. Was also surprised to see criticizing of the quality of such early footage. I figured that people who give enough of a shit about games to even see this leak would know better.
Tekken 7's story mode is fucking awesome when it focuses on Kazuya and Heihachi's rivalry and Akuma's promise to Kazumi to hunt the two of them down and kill them. When Tekken 7 is doing anything else, it's all weak sauce.
