I don't know. It's weird. I don't think I would mind if reviews would just kind of... Go? And make room for like an Extended Post Game Look at the game or something.
I agree with you about not minding if reviews disappear, I think. The tone of reviews nowadays seems generally off to me, as they are neither truly objective or subjective; just some limp, awkward combination of the two. Maybe it's because games are an artform as well as being a consumer technology?
Most game reviews read like a critique of a particularly complicated new microwave oven which displays interactive films on its glass door.
I want the Pauline Kael of video game reviewers. I actually think Jeff could do a good job of writing in a similarly funny, often caustic, and passionate style (if the pretence of any objectivity was dropped). She was from Petaluma, too!
Quickly dismissing something as "Pretentious": A tacit admission of the inadequacy of the critical apparatus somehow becoming - as it has done so often - a means of undervaluing creative endeavour.
@rigas: if you remember Dan is essentially a child (I say that as a compliment), his behaviour becomes much easier to take! He's excited about having a girlfriend!
