Dude! I have the same problem (I guess its not something to get so exited about). There's this quite hot girl also on my XC team whose been on and off with a dude on my XC team since the beginning of high school (im now a senior). She's always sort of kind of liked me, but i never had enough confidence to talk enough to take it up a next step with her. So yeah, im also on Cross Country and i have a similar problem so just sharing

Sorry to hear about that WsS, this all happens to us.  All I can say is try to talk to her in a not-so-serious way (no pun intended).  I mean, try to be outgoing, but not blatantly obvious.  Talk about something she knows.  So I don't think she will want to talk about videogames like this site.  Uh, unless she does, which would be AWESOME.

I had the same problem when I was in school.  I don't know if I do now, because I haven't gone up to a girl in a long time to get her number or anything since I have a girlfriend, but it's more of a mind over matter thing.  I know when I did go up and talk to a girl to get there number, my knee's got weak and I though I was going to collapse.  So I have to say you're not the only one.  Just get the balls to do it and do it.  Who knows, she might be into video games :)

Sweep: I'm not really "asking for advice" because it won't help. I'm just kind of telling everyone for some reason. Trust me.... people have tried to give me advice and A) It doesn't work. B) I don't really need it anymore. Lol I'm probably pretty far from emo if you knew me.

PS3 is pretty good system. its still lacking in games, but i really hope this holiday that all changes. As for girls problems 2 things of advice i can give you. Remember 2 key phrases that has ensured man kinds survival thus far! the first is DON'T PANIC! and the 2nd is FUCK IT.  Just walk up and talk to her its better to strike out and know then to lay awake at night and wonder trust me on this one.

Yeah I think everyone has that kind of trouble getting the courage to talk to her. You do have one advantage, she is a freshman and you are a sophomore. She probably is a little afraid of the new school and would feel really good if an older guy came and talked to her to make her feel special. Keep that in mind. ;)
