So this is just some big front to advertise Total War right? If so you failed, because those games bore the fuck out of me.

He is a big advertisment of Total War.

He's doing a real good job.

Still, atmosphere doesn't make you question things about you're life.

But it's not just atmosphere. The island and units change as you progress towards modernization. As these become stronger, traditional values become weaker. That might not make you personally think. But it does for me, as a clever person. It also applies to everyone. I remember when I was 16 and got my first DVD player. At the time we primarily had VHS. I watched Gladiator on my PS2 (that inspired Rome: Total War). This game made me think of that. The old days, of VHS. And Gladiator, the first DVD I ever watched.

My dear fellow. I'm not sure what the point of this is. But I used specific context examples of actual game mechanics used. You (and every other fellow attempting to mock) just listed random stuff like it was some sort of profound rhetorical criticism. That would only have worked if you used specific context examples of game mechanics, within a single game to make a logical and relevant analytical dismissive comment pertaining to the nature of the subject presented. As it stands this comes across as somewhat erroneous ill intent.

You realize most devs are clamoring for new consoles to

Alot of them are claiming they are limited. Personally, I think that is bullshit.

What they really want, is a new way to hype titles new or old IP's. A new console acts almost as a reboot button. So in some (small way) Cage is right imo.

Fine. They're lacking in interesting, thought-provoking expressions of emotion and have no relevance to anything outside of themselve

Fall Of The Samurai attempts to show the Westernation of Japan as well as technological advancements destruction of the traditional methods of war considered "honorable". As your clan changes from traditional archaic values to modern technologically driven values the landscape changes from bright and happy to dark and harsh with billowing smoke from factories along with increasingly somber music. The game actually goes as far as to have all the voice acting from the original game be turned to "engrish".

Does Journey (or any Jonathan Blow title) have this amount of ambition, thought provoking display or intricity for something that is actually huge in scope? No. Most indie titles tend to simply be weird as fuck games with random surreal shit thrown in and people seal clap because it makes them feel clever (see below post). Thats fine. However when they start acting like the farts they produce are actually roses, thats not good at all.Very bad I feel. Insulting even. I admire that Twisted Metal man for telling them to (more or less) fuck off.

The Total War games, although fun, are by no means complex in comparison to games like Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron or Victoria.

I agree. However regardless of problems presented by Total War (bad AI, Empire being a beta state) they and most games seem polished compared to "Paradox Interactive" titles.

While it is great they put out pc centric titles, many of the games themselfs good. They don't seem to give a shit if the games are ready or are in a working state. At this point (like ubisoft titles) I have given up offering them money.

For some of those games, I don't think it's as much of a matter of bugs but just a ridiculously steep learning curve. I had a very hard time getting into Hearts of Iron 3 from Vic 2, HOI 2 and EU3.

Total War advisors (female for turn based, male for real time) as well as a built in wikipedia is something practically all strategy (and simulators such as Digital combat simulator) should use imo.

Most simulators are not that difficult to operate, the problem with alot of them is that they give you a convoluted manual that do a shitty job of telling you what to do.

To say that the Total War series is for history buffs implies a gross ignorance of the concessions they make in the name of fun.

This does not stop a game appealing to history buffs. Nor does it imply any ignorance what so ever.

Games aren't lacking in depth, that's never been an issue. They're lacking in emotion and poignancy, and that's why they aren't "adult".

This doesn't equal "adult" at all. Anything can have that. The fucking "Lion King" has that. A 4 year old can comprehend it.

Journey is a game in which you interact with another person in a completely nonverbal way. It reveals aspects of human nature by removing all preconceptions based on looks, gender, age, ethnicity etc from the equations and puts you in a state in which your personality is laid bare in your actions alone.

When I play counterstrike, I don't use the command keys. Me and my bros just run in and shoot terrorists. It lays down a non verbal bond between people, regardless of ethnicity, language, age or gender, a common unified purpose to extinguish evil from the world and from that bond, we touch each other, emotionally, through digital tears. It operates beyond the veil of social boundaries. And through that pretentious bullshit, we cum. It's worth noting as well cheetara is really hot. Not that shitty anime one, the original.

What do you do in those games that you posted?

I just spend an entire column explaining Total War and why it's wonderful in multiple aspects. I can explain these other games (or someone else can if they can be bothered) but at the moment I don't really feel like typing out paragraph after paragraph to state the obvious to someone who will more than likely attempt to give me more garbage nonesense and fallacy arguments.
