I don't think it's that big of a deal. I personally can't expect somebody to have had the same or even similar gaming experience as I have had, so I can't fault them for not "knowing any better"
Instead, when approached with this question, I'll either give 'em my honest thoughts from my point of view or I'll ask them to tell me a game that THEY consider to be good, and base my response on that.
Either way I've never felt annoyed by the question. I welcome 'em.
