I picked this up for £5.50 total on Epic during Early Access (thank you, free £10 voucher), didn't touch it until it hit 1.0 the other week, and now I feel like I've robbed the developers.

It's really, really good. It can still be a bit of a mid-game grind, so watch out for that, but there's so much to do going well into NG+1 and beyond (including bonus lore and bosses!)

(I hope that when this makes it to the Switch, it'll have cross-save support, like Hades. This game would be perfect in handheld form for quick runs, and I can only envy Steamdeck users right now!)

@janman I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it, but you can actually set most emulators to interpret the analog sticks as D-pad movement for games which didn't support true analog. It can really help on some games!

In Retroarch, for example, it's under Settings -> Input -> User 1 Binds -> Set User 1 Analog to Digital Type to Left Analog.

Edit: Also...

I’m probably the only person in the history of the world that ever wanted an HD remake of Skyward Sword, so I’m pretty pumped for this. Hopefully with “button controls” people playing for the first time will actually see all the cool ideas and hear the good music Nintendo buried in there. People that already dislike it probably ain’t gonna change their mind though.

I'm with you. I stand by my opinion that Skyward Sword is an almost top-tier Zelda trapped inside a weird husk of experimental ideas, Wii jank and far too many tutorials, with one of the very best stories in the whole series. Yeah, the whole thing could definitely use a pacing pass (especially the first 30% and some of the re-used sections later), but there's so much good in there, especially if Zelda lore/music is your jam.

Also: very pleased that they actually made this run at 60FPS. It looks waaaay smoother.

I'm only a few minutes in, but @janman: I've really enjoyed your super-chill Pokemon Snap streams, and your work site-wide has always been strong from what I've seen. I'm sure you'll improve with your still image work or any other areas with time. It's a hard time for everyone right now, but I think you're doing great! Just remember to rest and reflect when you need it. :)

I'm so happy Mane6 has made it to 1.0 and this is getting the attention it deserves. The team has taken a lot of smart steps in the last year to improve community interaction, buff up the in-game tutorials (as you've seen... Jason totally nailing those early combos) and to help organise streams/tournaments for play.

I still clearly remember the live streams of this during the Indiegogo push... hearing that bangin' Training Stage Theme on loop while watching Mane6 tweak the alpha pretty much sold me on it. :P

And yeah: the game has had quite the colourful development history, with contributions coming in from all over the MLP fanbase and the fighting game community following the Hasbro C&D and its change from Fighting is Magic. Lab Zero Games, developers of Skullgirls and Indivisible, lent their Z-Engine to Mane6; initial MLP Gen 4 lead Lauren Faust handled the character design duties for the game, and also contributed a "lore bible" to lay out the world-building; and Craig McCracken (Lauren's partner and creator of The Powerpuff Girls, among others) even suggested the title of the game itself.

Anyway, I'm not fantastic at four-button fighters, but this has still been a lot of fun even in its early access builds. There's only six characters here at the moment, but each feels really different and there's a ton of combo complexity under the hood... and that's without getting into the supposed L3 supers. There's also a seventh character on the way, too. The pixel lobby stuff and the story mode (which I haven't even tried) is just icing on the cake.

Thanks for showing this off, @unastrike!

I guess ff7 crisis core never had a western release so the crew got surprised by the combat mode of this.

Actually, Crisis Core very definitely had a western release! It's not a perfect game by any means, and one or two of the new plot elements are preeeetty un-necessary, but it was great to be in that world again and soak in the little details... kind of an appetiser for this, I guess. Plus, Zack's story is pretty melancholy...
