Well, since this project is going to happen, I might as well post some ideas and hope for some positive feedback. 
First: thank you buzz_klik for the original sprites, they rule.
The one thing I'm trying to nail down is the class names for Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, and Brad. 
Another thing is the story. I mean, it's freakin Giantbomb, what could it possibly be about? 
At this stage, I'm just trying to get the sprites completed and tack down some basics of the game (like items).  Next up will be locations and enemies. I'm not too sure where that's gonna go, but I'm all ears. 
So please, if you've got any ideas or constructive criticisms, post 'em.

I think the story should involve hamburgers in a large way.

Well, I have this idea for a GB game, but it's more of a CastleCrashers/ TMNT Arcade style game, and the ideas work better for that... But I will say that it involves Uwe Boll taking over the world with an army of helicopters. You can make up the rest.

Story: Luchadeer?

You say this is going to happen in such a matter of fact way so i must be late to the party cause thats news to me.  Here are the things that immediately come to mind. 
 
- Vinny can control time and space itself via film editing 
- Brad uses the power of dying to somehow defeat foes.  He's the tank basically. 
- Luchadeer is some kind of mentor/god/noble sage.  They seek him out for guidance on their mission. 
- I think each person should have their own goal.  Jeff's is to save Chie. 
 
Thats what I thought of on the spot.

- try to get back home the stumble upon a save the princess type of scenario

- defeat luchadeer,transported back home to the office where luchadeers head already sits on their wall

Whats the setting for this?  I think real world with video game stuff invading would be ideal FUCK I JUST THOUGHT OF A JUNGLER BOSS MID SENTENCE YOU WOULD HAVE TO SHOOT SECTIONS OFF OH MAN YOU SEE WHERE I'M GOING WITH THIS like you could have stores be 7-11's with energy drinks and hot dogs as healing items.  You could somehow include people sending them random drinks and foodstuffs in boxes. 
 
I just want to add, this is all very easy for me, sitting here doing other stuff and posting when I think of something, and I think it's awesome that you are doing this.  Do what you can and I suggest doing things one bit at a time.  Make the first area with all the sprites in, the menus set up, a test battle.  Just do everything one chunk at a time, don't worry about the big picture so much.

Heh, the big problem with this project is that the dudes say funny shit on a weekly basis. As soon as you're making headway with your initial designs, the next podcast will be filled with fuel for the imagination.
 
That being said, I don't think we should have a boss based on Vinny's curse-of-all-curses. Mainly because Borderlands already did that.

perfect story for a shitty giantbomb game: 
evil cyborg (luchadeer's twin brother) taking over the real world teaming up with video gam villains and only the GB crew can save it!

dude, that sounds amazing. looks like those character specific goals are side quests now.

But you can keep the same frame for everything!  Jump into one world from the TV for one quest, go into another world for another quest.  Just thought of an intro for the game.  They are recording the podcast when brad has to leave early.  They all start doing their British accent brad when he comes running back in exasperated explaining his bus was being attacked by monsters.  Que a quick fight, them barring the door, then news reports explaining the situation, that Luchadeer has gone evil and is taking over.  Thats when their Luchadeer, the real Luchadeer, springs to life and explains he his the god of video games and the video games are only following this imposter because they think it's the real deal.  They must quest to stop him but first must rescue and unite all the capture industry people. 
 
Also, minor things I thought of. 
 
- The primary save point is the bombcast room because that his how the crew sends out their guerrilla signal, updating the fans on their progress. 
- Each industry person they rescue should live in the offices and offer a service of some kind, big or small.  Think Sukioden. 
- Jeff should need to fight an enemy using guns, but that enemy consists of only heads, forcing him to "face his fears" and take headshots.

Kane and Lynch should be an enemy, only later to be needed as part of the team. 
 
I also think you should go and look at Jeff's page, and steal one of the random things from the bottom as one of his special abilities, I know there's something you could steal.
 
I.e. The crap nap thing, that could intimidate.

Some way of incorporating gin and Jeff with a negative outcome.

Are you using RPG maker?  I don't know how flexible the most recent versions of that are, I know back when I messed with it like 5+ years ago they werent very flexible.  Like would it be possible to have items effect different characters different ways?  Cause Gin could do great things for everyone and destroy Jeff.

yea, rpg maker xp. i havent really tried it, but im sure something like that is possible. just gotta dig through and write the code for it. helps having experience making some games with it already.  
side note; here is a screen i took of the battle system with custom hp/sp bars and default ghost enemy  

ill finish the jeff or ryan sprite later today. the battle system is functonal out of the box. the one thing that will kill progress is the office, environments are a bitch. at least the GB office/basement is small

For those that are still interested, I have finished animating the GB crew sprites. 

I am very interested. Also have Luchadeer kidnap Matt Kessler and him be the 'princess' of the game.

The story should involve some outside force trying to shut down Giantbomb.com. Maybe aliens? Corporate businessmen? I don't know. Just a really general idea.
