Not quite what I expected in the end, a Spider-Hulk vampire game.

I was looking forward to this game and finally a copy for rent showed up in my local video store so I gave it a try. At first I really liked the game, the gore and endless killing was fun at first. Taking down a tank and helicopter with punches and kicks or later just taking it over for your own use was really cool. Also I got into the whole consuming people to take their memories and fill in the parts to Alex's story. As for replay valued I found the side missions interesting enough to keep trying them out for a little extra fun. If I had stopped about halfway thru the game I probably would write something different and that I loved the game.

But the last 1/4th of the game I started to change my mind. The endless consuming people to keep your health up to use devastator attacks during missions or boss fights got monotonous. Beat on a monster or destroy some target, run away evade the strike squads, fill back up on health and then do it again. Also for a sandbox game there was certain fights where you really needed to use a certain tactic or vehicle to succeed at a mission, or you would just beat your head against a wall. I so enjoyed Red Faction where I could go in guns blazing or drive a truck into a building or whatever. Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough on one of the boss fights you have to fight some weird and frustrating situations.

I was on a boss fight where you need to do a devastator attack by the boss so many times to break down her protection, with a lot of back and forth in a back alley to heal up then unleash the devastator. After this you have a short period of time to beat on on the boss to reduce her health. I got to a point where there was just a bit of protection left and then tanks in the area had shot down the last of her protection and while I was healing up I missed the opportunity to reduce her health so it starts all over with the running back and forth. There is very little enjoyment in what I was doing and it just gets worse.

Got to the last boss battle and after a few tries I had it, forgot all about the earlier hours I had fun with the game and back to the video store it went! I suppose I could gave it a few more times and some might say I just suck but I play games for fun and this was no fun.

But what is the... prototype? 0

Prototype arrived ridding a wave of hype, but does it deliver its promises or does instead drown in them? The game tells the story of man, Alex Mercer, awaking in the morgue, with no memories, and a question on his mind:"Who did this to me?"In the meantime, Manhattan is put under quarantine by the regular army and a unknown military outfit, called the Blackwatch Special Forces, due to a misterious virus that spread within the city, turning its citizens into disfigured zombies. Are the two related...

The Type of Game that I Love to Borrow. 0

[Prototype] is the type of game that I love to borrow. There are moments when you are scaling sky-scrapers, destroying tanks, hijacking helicopters, and you feel like an elite, über antihero. And there are moments when you have to do lame repetitive missions and totally suspend your disbelief to swallow the video game-iness of the experience. Bottom line if I haven't caught you attention with these first few sentences, this game is a two week treasure. Play it. It's great. But don't expect ...
