Released on April 24, 2013 for iOS and June 11, 2013 for Android, Puyo Puyo!! Quest is a free to play spinoff of Sega's Puyo Puyo series that adapts the franchise's puzzle gameplay into a Puzzle & Dragons-esque RPG. Unlike other games in the Puyo Puyo series, Quest does task the player with placing falling pairs of puyo tiles. Instead, the board fills in automatically, and matches are made by selecting up to five puyo to remove at a time, causing those above them to fall. Each character has different abilities which facilitate matching, and up to five characters can be taken into a level. As matches are made, the player's characters deal damage to the level's opponent, who deals damage to the characters in return.
Alongside the mobile version, an arcade release entitled Puyo Puyo!! Quest Arcade was released in November, 2013. The arcade version features a number of differences from the mobile version, such as a Stamina system in place of the mobile version's gacha system, and a drag-and-drop style of matching gameplay. The arcade version ended operations and was removed from arcades in Spring 2017.
