Was kinda excited about this game and wanted a review from GB, but apparently that's not happening. Did they give a reason why?

So why isn't there a review?
" It would've took too much time. There's also like 346, 594 of these threads :P "Took too much time? Brad reviewed Final Fantasy XIII and that took him a long time.......

Again they even said there would most likely not be a review. Just get the game. It is great and is getting amazing reviews from everyone. I loved it. Everyone I talked to loves it.
Didn't this excuse kinda fall flat after Brad beat it?" It would've took too much time.
Anywho, as others have stated, they talked a lot about it on the Bombcasts.
I'm guessing that it just took too much time and everyone is already relatively aware of the staff's opinion on the game.
An official review would have been nice, but I don't think it's necessary at this point.
- To inform the audience on the quality of game
- To allow gamers playing games long after their prime to check out reviews; an archival purpose
I can't remember Jeff's post word for word on why they chose not to review it. But it generally revolved around the fact it would take a fair bit of time to review it and by the time a GB review was published it would have been a little redundant as by that point people have likely made up their mind on the game. And there is definitely no shortage of RDR coverage from other outlets, in fact the various GB coverage has also been somewhat adequate at painting a picture of the game for those looking to find out more about it.
Jeff got pissy that the others enjoyed the game more than he did, and barred them from putting up a review.
Judging by the Quick Look and the Bombcasts, I think it's safe to say that they really enjoy the game.
That's why I think GiantBomb should throw a review up.
- ...archival purposes
I don't understand how "time" can be used as an excuse when two (possibly three or more) of the employees have already beaten the game.
...and all the "oh, this thread again?" just strengthens the argument that maybe this game should've gotten a review.
" I think it will only be a little weird if it's up for game of the year discussion come December. To be frank, I wouldn't be surprised if it's mysteriously absent from that conversation come December.

Ahh c'mon, they have more integrity than that. They've all played it, and if by the end of the year they still think that it's one of the best games of 2010 I'm sure it will be in the running.
" Do you need the text review? Your question is a valid one, but between the Quick Look, Thursday Night Throwdown, and their podcast discussions there's been plenty of opportunity to see the game in action and hear the staff's opinion of it, and their opinion has been very positive. "They don't give a star rating for people to bitch about though.
Just listen to the last few podcasts before E3. They had plenty of discussion on Red Dead Redemption.
Personally, I don't think that justifies it though. I mean, it's such a huge game. I don't see why they can't review it. It certainly puts a large gap in part of the website.
" @ReddogDL: Have you played both games? Have you played either of them? "Yes, and both are amazing. Both also follow the exact same formula (which why wouldn't they, its Rockstar's main forte after all).
The only problem I had with both titles is the story, which I think adds way to much extra fluff because people bitch at games that are short.

What about user reviews? Those seem mostly positive. Plus, I don't think that habitual whining should necessitate the GiantBomb staff taking time out of their fairly busy schedule to post the review of a game that came out almost two months ago. While yes, it would be nice, it just doesn't seem to be worth it in the long-haul; I kinda doubt that the overall critical opinion of the game will depreciate over time.

this is the biggest prblem with gb IMO; timely content. Well that and consistent content. not complaining or anything, just sayin..
Does it really matter all that much? They don't review every game and I think the Quick Look is good enough that it'll give you a feel for the game by watching it. Certainly not important enough to warrant creating weird conspiracy theories around it. Let's be level-headed at least.
As they've said, it came out at the wrong time. Rockstar didn't get it to them early enough so they couldn't play the game before its release, and all their in-office stuff revolved around the stuff they already had planned, setting up for E3, and beginning the preliminaries for their move. And ultimately, even if they assigned Brad or someone to review the game after E3 (some three weeks after the game was out), they wouldn't have anything of value to add to the glut of information already out there.
This is like complaining about why they never did a Persona 4 review. I'd still love to see Jeff write that thing about P4 he's been wanting to write ever since finishing the Endurance Run, but a review just isn't necessary. If you follow the site, you already know their opinion. If you don't, you can just go somewhere else.
And it's actually not the same situation as FFXIII. That review came out late, true, but Giant Bomb did get an early copy of the game. They only ended up buying a retail copy because, as they've mentioned, the early copy they were given was the 360 version and it ran like garbage.
Still shocked on the lack of a review. I would have assumed that a high profile game such as this would have one by now. Sure it came out at a bad time and apparently rockstar did not send out review copies or something. Anyways, we all know that they loved the game and we can assume a score but what about in 2-5 years when someone is checking this out this game on the live marketplace 2.0 or psn 2.0 and want to know a little more about the game?
I think it will come. Just a feeling. Do I care? Not really. It does feel strange though, pretty big game and no review considering this.

How Come You Don't Review Every Single Game That Comes Out? Are You Lazy?
Well, yeah, but the point is that Giant Bomb isn't interested in the fire-hose approach to video game coverage. Our editorial team is small and experienced, and our job is to highlight the stuff that we feel is significant, either to us on a personal level, or for video games at large. That's not everything, but it's still a lot. Though, we're not real big on sports games, so don't expect too much meaningful/informed Madden coverage.
Rockstar for some reason, didn't send GB a early copy of the game. Jeff was very displeased with this. For what ever reason, he may have taken this treatment by Rock Star personal.
Think about it. Every other site gets a early review copy, except GB? Their reviews are early and on release. But the GB crew has to go buy their own copies, day of release. Somethings fishy here, and I think Jeff knows why.
You know what? If, at this point in time, you can't figure out whether or not a game is right for you based on the media available, fucking kill yourself. That or just quit gaming you fucking retard jackass.

One of the biggest games came out this year, but no review. Strange, I think so.
Check your self buddy, before you judge.
" @tranquilchaos said:god why the fuck do you care? Does a review really matter to you? I got plenty of insight about the game already from them, I don't need a fucking review to figure out that they liked it (PROTIP: they did), they've already talked about why they HAVEN'T reviewed it, and there's simply no point in doing so now. I wish we could stop having this question" You know what? If, at this point in time, you can't figure out whether or not a game is right for you based on the media available, fucking kill yourself.
