Red Dead Redemption is the spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, featuring a vibrant, open world set in the decline of the American Wild West. Players take on the role of former outlaw John Marston, who is forced to hunt down his former gang to regain his family.

    This sink ain't big enough

Just like GTA4, I got 4/5's through the story then just said "fuck it". You can only do the same repetitive tasks over and over before you get turned off and don't want to come back. Especially when the shooting mechanics make shooting enemies comparable to spreading butter on toast.

"BUT THE STORRYYYY" you'll cry. Marston is/was a an outlaw who needs to find his former outlaws-in-arms and make up for his past. He tells you this plenty of times over long, drawn out horse rides that - more often than they should - be longer than the actual dialogue. Rockstar Games have some of the most authentic voice acting and writing in their games. They might have recycled characters (Marston = Niko) with some details changed, or just turn stereotypes into secondary, comic relief type characters (Irish, that gay guy in GTA4) but at least Rockstar knows how to work with these troped-to-fuck characters.

"BUT THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO!!!" you'll also cry. Gambling is fun, that's true. Hunting however, gets old fast. Contracts get old, random miniquests in town are kinda exciting but even they get old.

The game's really nice looking, but there are a lot of graphical bugs which makes things disappear, and that got downright annoying.

So you might write this review off as a guy who clearly just didn't finish the game. But the point is, I didn't feel compelled to. I heard the ending's sick n all, but what can I say? The monotonously old Rockstar gameplay and story formula is just too last gen.

Red Dead Revolver was a modest action-shooter-game-thingy released on last generation’s consoles in 2004. I’d best describe it as an unorthodox spaghetti-western game with strange controls and a cast of cowboy archetypes that had the benefit of stylish load screens and trumpet-fueled music music. Red Dead Revolver is the non-sequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, and quite frankly you will not hear the name of the former game in this text review again on account to how little in common the two...

Play it NOW! - Red Dead Redemption 0

John Marston is single-handedly the greatest protagonist that Rockstar has ever created. The game's ability to capture his personality and simultaneously recreate the picturesque Wild West setting, makes for a compelling narrative rarely accomplished in games. Much of this has to do with the excellent voice acting and animation, making the scenes very cinematic. There are also the usual Rockstar tropes of dialog containing social commentary on American life, but Redemption executes these ...
