Ah I found out why, starting with ep 53 it goes back to the classic soundtrack (YES!) because the new "composer" was just ripping off a ton of other songs and he had been for nearly 20 years.

It does but the tracks aren't placed in the same spot as they were in Z originally. They just added tracks based on where the previous Kai music was, so the old music can feel a bit out of place in Kai.

I'm sure, but it's so good that I don't even care. I was wrong though, it's episode 52 it changes.

I agree. Classic Shunsuke Kikuchi music is so good.

@alvarofaraujo: That, and he's an arrogant man-child. If you consider Freiza has never had to work to get as strong as he is, and was basically born that strong, it really explains a lot about his character.

The next batch of episodes has Goku's best line in the series.

"Someone needs to teach you to stop messing with other people's planets!"

@themaddness:

Do we know that for sure? I admit I'm not super up-to-date on all the Dragon Ball lore, but Freeza is just one member of an entire race, and at the very least he has (had? Cooler may have been reconnected or something, I've not paid much attention to DBZ for some time) a brother that was significantly stronger than him

The new composer was Kenji Yamamoto, who had been doing "DBZ" music for a couple of decades from things like insert songs and video game soundtracks. It had been somewhat of an open secret among the DB fan community that he was shamelessly ripping off Western songs for his Dragon Ball work. It caught up to him during the first run of Kai, and resulted in the original Kikuchi music coming back. Kanzenshuu has a great article about the whole debacle here:

I didn't realize it until now, but ASG is scratching the itch I had ever since the Power Bombcast stopped. Hearing Jeff and Dan go on about the crazy-ass characters and moves and stuff reminds me a lot of when they enjoyed wrestling.

This podcast rekindled a love for Dragon Ball that I haven’t had since the early 2000s. I started buying the manga, Super, streaming Z on Funimation, and maxed out 2 characters so far in Xenoverse 2.

Last time I was this into DB was when I moved heaven and earth to import a copy of one of the mediocre snes fighting games and an adapter to play it through back in ‘97.

All that speculation at the end made it so much harder to wait for two whole weeks. The next set (hell, the next two sets) is so good.

I just did the count, though, and it's STILL not to THAT episode, damnit! We have to wait ANOTHER week.

Have they realized that "Goku" sings the theme song yet? Or at least one version of it.
