Oh, well that's a bummer. By the way Dan hyped this up I thought they were starting from Yakuza 1. I mean Yakuza 0 is a fantastic game, but I wouldn't recommend it as your first entry to the series. The fighting mechanics and substories get better each game.

I just finished chapter 4 of this and I sure love this game. The only other Yakuza I played was 4 but only played the first character.

This game is incredible. Such a good story, and the side stories alone are worth it. Also, I always laugh every time I see a new heat action. Can't wait to see what they think.

YES. Finally. This is probably the best possible team to take this on. I also really hope they don't shy away from the seedy, raunchy content in these games. In that regard, I can only wish for a laid back Jeff & Dan DoA X3 QL vibe.

Alex mentioned they're playing the remake coming out later this year instead of 1 anyway, and the whole reason the series exists is because of 0's release. So it was probably either this or nothing.

And please please please let the dialogue finish, we know Dan doesn't care about the voice acting, but you guys aren't really saving much time and it messes up the mood/presentation.

But all in all, good first ep guys! I'm kind of on the fence about starting with Yakuza 0; this one is a great choice since it'll definitely get you to like the series, but you might be super bummed when you have to regress to Yakuza 1 after this.

@alex Just a bit of framing for this era, late 80's japan was like the roaring twenties over here, inflation was insane.

Just a real slight gameplay tip for @dan that the game might not explain: there'll be a little firey triangle icon in the top right of the screen any time you can do a heat move. As you get further and further along, you'll get more heat moves for different situations. Down the line they can get pretty specific, but some of 'em are real goofy, so I'd strongly suggest experimenting.

Oh man real excited! Only about a min in but I predict dan being the controller is a great choice.

I knew Dan would love Yakuza. It's as Kojima as a series gets without actually being a Kojima series.

And yeah, Yakuza games are looooong, even without going after every bit of content. At around two hours a week, there'll be five more sequels out by the time they've gotten to 6, haha. Not that I'm complaining... having only played 4 and 5, I'm excited to see the rest for the first time, with the added bonus of GBEast commentary.

@shagge: if you just were to do main story they're all average length games.

Not that I'd recommend that. But it's an easy series to just suddenly decide to wrap things up.

The weekly wait is going to be painful but I will endure it.

I beat the game in 90 hours, doing almost every sidequest, so this series will be going for a while.

I've always loved how seamlessly Yakuza games transition between extremely goofy and VERY SERIOUS without losing the appeal of either. I've gone from earnestly crying at these games to laughing my ass off within the span of like 30 minutes. It's a journey! I hope they're prepared for it.

Edit: I have some feedback. Please slow down on skipping their dialogue. Ideally let them finish talking before you skip so that you don't interrupt them. I find it a little off-putting to constantly hear them stop talking mid-sentence.
