Blue Bombin': Blue Bombin’: Mega Man 3 - Part 01

Alex has a strange way of playing these games in that he often seems to put forth little effort in not taking damage. Like he'll just run through a guy or stand still and shoot instead of evading their attacks. It's simultaneously kind of funny and kind of frustrating to watch.

@ultimaxe: I think the idea is that taking damage isn't a big deal if he is still getting through the level because he is likely to not kill the boss in the first try either way.

Dan is right, there is a code/exploit/glitch in Megaman 3 involving you holding right on the second controller. It makes it so that you jump 2 or 3 times higher and makes you able to fall into pits without dying. Instead you just lose a little life and can walk along the bottom of the pit, and it lets you go to zero life and not die except you can't shoot anymore at zero life. You can however pick up an energy pellet or use an E-tank and regain the ability to shoot. When I was little I would have friends hold right, or sometimes play through the game doing it with my feet.

Yay I love this series, I'm too awful at Mega Man to actually complete the games myself but I love the music and the GBE boys

Alex definitely has a difficult order starting with Magnet Man. Most people I knew started with Snake Man, but myself, I preferred to start with Top Man. Stage isn't hard and his pattern is probably the easiest of any of the bosses to deal with.

This seems like it has much more bullshit than even the first game.

This was no doubt one of the best videos I've ever seen on Giantbomb. It started off a bit negatively with Alex's struggles against Magnet Man, but the rest of the video was just pure gold. I just want to reflect on some of the great moments in this.

The absolute silence when Dan and Vinny realized that Alex had figured out a good strategy for Magnet Man and didn't want to distract him.

The Pot Man revelation and the conspicuous fade out/fade in that happened immediately after.

As someone who hasn't spent much time around children, that whole conversation was super interesting for me.

That platforming segment right at the end of the Spark Man stage. I rewatched that multiple times, just so I could see everybody's faces during that. So good.

Agreed. Why does he keep leaving the safe corners??? Beating Magnet man with the buster is pretty viable IMHO once you learn where to stand to let him jump over you.

The slowdown ruins this game. Great music, some great boss designs, bad MM2 boss rush, crippling crippling slowdown.

Blue Bombin' may secretly be one of the best GB features right now. The game itself is almost secondary to the random conversations. I love it.

And I see now where some of the apoplectically angry commenters went after Metal Gear Scanlon. You'd think they'd have figured out by now that this isn't an MLG site, but...

The second season of Twin Peaks has a dip in quality in the middle, but it's still great and definitely worth watching. Some of the best stuff is near the end.

The Alex/Vinny/Dan trio is such a great combination just for the chemistry they have while talking over these games

Alex doesn't seem to have the patience to farm enemies before a boss to top off health and energy, which was always something I did as a kid to make them significantly easier. He also doesn't seem to have the patience for frequently swapping weapons, as in literally on the same screen using one weapon to fight one enemy, the immediately swapping to another for an enemy on that same screen. E.g. on Shadow Man stage, I would swap to Magnet Missile just to fire the ~3 shots to take out the lights then swap back to regular shot to take out the grenades.

He could also be using the slide a LOT more. Especially in Mega Man 3, a lot of the enemy patterns are timed assuming you'll use the slide to escape them. I don't remember that being as prominent in Mega Man 4 and beyond, but I only personally owned MM3, so my memory of the others isn't as good as I typically only rented them once or twice as a kid and didn't go back to them as an adult because I didn't remember liking them as much as MM3. I also remember them being significantly easier.

I love these. It seems Dan is bringing a new vibe to GiantBeast that I totally dig! Dan please keep suggesting these old games to play with these two. I feel that the Giantbomb east and west's charisma are now completely equally balanced. Thanks guys!!

It wasn't the same song, but the intro to the Sega CD game had a similar beat and contained the voice samples of the character's names and the "MORTAL KOMBAT!" yell.

Man I really hope they go past the standard Mega Man games even if its just 1 one bonus stream XD I want to see them play Mega Man Soccer and Racing

Right when Alex said that he was starting with Magnet Man, I knew this was going to go south real quick. I love Alex and I think he's great, but he's making it harder than it actually is on himself. When being asked why he starts with Magnet Man and him saying "Because it doesn't matter, he's hard and I want to just get him out of the way" as he could barely get him below half health with the buster was kind of mind boggling. He's hard for you because you don't have his weakness Spark Shock. Buster = 2 damage. Spark Shock = 7. Always start with Top Man and go from there.

Nah, it's just like Dark Souls in that way. You trudge your way through it and every step of the way you fail to imagine how the game could treat you any worse, and then it finds a way. The key is that, when you're done, you can look back at what you just managed to conquer and feel like a goddamn god. That's what difficult games are all about!

I'm playing these games through for the first time in anticipation of new episodes. It's interesting seeing Alex struggle with parts I cruised through and vice-versa. Not quite sold on these games status as classics but it's been fun so far. There is some serious BS in this game that they will come against next episode but Alex will probably magically cruise through it.

Re: politics: I certainly appreciate their support, and if you find the stuff they described controversial, then I dunno about you, man.
