Unpopular opinion but I think Megaman 5 has the best music of the series. You wouldn't know from this video though. It was so drowned out that I could barely hear it.

If I agree, does that make it a popular opinion?

I already said that in these comments, as well. Actually went as far as calling this the best NES Mega Man. So maybe not as unpopular as you'd think?

I enjoyed Murakami. Norwegian Wood was the most approachable with minimum supernatural elements. Kafka on the Shore was great, though confusing and the other end on the weird scale. A Wild Sheep Chase and its sequel, Dance Dance Dance fall in between, but it's a good story too. I enjoyed this book talk! Thanks for the recommendations!

Yeah, it's kinda strange how much hate Murakami started getting after his rise into the limelight. Read two books of his, "Sputnik Sweetheart" and "Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" (finished that one just 2 days ago, incidentally) and thought they were both wonderfully imaginative books. The one thing that kinda annoyed me were his constant references to old books and music. It sometimes felt like he was showing off his own knowledge in those fields rather than adding much to the narrative.

McG did not direct the Britney Spears "Toxic" music video. That was directed by Joseph Kahn (director of TORQUE and DETENTION...both are fucking fantastic films).

The book discussion made me very happy. Focault's Pendulum rules.

@paulunga I'm finishing up The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, and I really like it (though I totally get why some people don't connect with it). It's really engaging and easy to read, which is especially impressive considering how long and drifting it is. I really want to read Hard-boiled Wonderland, the premise of that book seems really cool.

If the rest of the crew don't pay any attention to the game then why play it. I would like to see the crew focus more on games and less on small talk. Otherwise, just create different show for all the small talk they want.

I hate that Dan Ryckert reminded me about the bee Goosebumps thing. Still gives me nightmares now, no joke!

Dude, he's raised almost a BILLION dollars for cancer research. Does that not make up for doping?

Not to mention every racer in the top ten was equally 'roided up. So our cheater beat their cheaters. Big whoop. Plus, the guy basically brought cycling back to the forefront after a massive drug scandal- something that made everyone fabulously wealthy. Everyone knew that almost any top tier cyclist was on something, and nobody cared until he didn't suit their agenda anymore.

Not saying he's perfect, but cut the guy some slack, Dan.

After this episode, I'm trying to imagine how Project Beast would have fared with Dan at the helm....

If anyone is looking for time travel that holds up (I think @ybbaaabby brought it up), I can't recommend Steins;Gate highly enough.

Dude, he's raised almost a BILLION dollars for cancer research. Does that not make up for doping?

He claimed zero tolerance to doping, denied it so far as to make dubious legal claims, and made himself into an aspirational figure (multiple Tour winner despite cancer, fundraising etc.). He doesn't deserve any slack being cut.

@stordoff:

Oh no, he cheated in a race full of cheaters, even while it was abundantly clear he was cheating for years, what a tragedy. Or did you think we'd just bred the American Ãœbermensch who could beat the snot out of all these doped-up Europeans? Anyone who paid more attention to the sport than literally none at all knew about the doping, and while it's certainly unsportsmanlike and in poor taste, it's a lie that has done a ludicrous amount of good for the world, for cancer research, for the sport, it's popularity, and thus for the livelihoods of all its honest participants and commentators. If you're mad about Armstrong, you're putting principle above practicality.

Little late to the party here, but I was going through this video and reached the part where the crew got heavy into book talk. I started to get interested in checking out the crew's recommendations, so as I compiled a list of the GBE crew's book recommendations / likes into a GitHub gist.

Since I was going through the video pretty casually, there's a chance I may have missed a few books here and there so feel free to either reply here or on the GitHub gist with what I missed so I can revise the list.

Happy reading!

I'll never understand the opinion these guys have on the Sphere movie vs the book. The movie is good. The giant squid in the book is fucking ridiculous and the way they kill it by shooting an explosive harpoon gun at while inside a tiny little habitat is really dumb. I read the book after seeing the film and was so happy they heavily toned down the squid garbage. For some reason GB thinks the squid stuff was the best and wasn't represented enough in the film? Lol, what a terrible opinion. The Jurassic Park book similarly has really dumb things that I'm glad they didn't try putting in the film.

[edit] Lol now they're dissing Phonebooth? I hate listening to GB discuss film. They have awful taste. Phonebooth is a great psychological thriller.

Split was a ripoff. They tell you this guy's going to play 23 distinct personalities, but he only does like 4 or 5.
