Well, aren't you great?

I've had very little in common with any of the topics covered over the Danswers podcasts so far, I just enjoy listening to the people involved.

i love dan r. and his enthusiasm is utterly infectious, but it was nice to have paul at the very least attempt to ground him at points, especially with the whole jobs thing. there are many factors that mean that people can't work enjoyable jobs, or even work jobs at all. i am not aware of the way it works in the US, but in scotland anyway the prospects for jobs that pay well enough to support the lifestyle they want are prrrretty slim. sometimes it just doesn't work out. like i say though, dan's enthusiasm has definitely encouraged me to try and take more risks in what i do which i am incredibly grateful for.

The 'working jobs you hate' thing always seems to be people at different philosophical extremes going at it. The "follow your dreams" people sound native and the "be realistic" people sound defeatist. And they both sound dismissive of the others viewpoint. ( "You were just lucky! VS You just never tried! ")

To me, it always seemed to be in the middle. To succeed, you need both luck AND hard work. Not everyone is going to get their dream job, but you definitely won't unless you try.

"Man, I really hope Hardcore History starts talking more about Ben Stiller movies or I'm out." This is how you sound.

It's an advice show. Yes, Dan's silly bullshit frequently dominates (and that's why I'm skipping this one) but bringing the chuckles isn't the goal and it's a silly expectation to have.

And putting depressed in quotes like that makes you look like an asshole.

It was good to hear Paul respond to my "idiots or the future" email.

Not that I look up to Paul, but I do respect the dude for being a good father and being true to himself. He's not a hero or anything but I think it's ok to appreciate someone for being a decent human being.

This was fun. Like having Jeff or Vinny on, I enjoy having people with a lot of life experience just talking about life and (in some cases) kids.

Completely agree that you never really know someone until you've lived together. Tons of things come up from standards of cleanliness to what your waking up routine is that can drive best friends and significant others insane. Relationships fail over this stuff all the time, and it's crazy to me that people still get married before going through it.

For sure. I know of so many relationships that have fallen apart within 6 months of the couple moving in together. Being able to actually live with each other all the time is such a different thing from just being in a relationship and living apart.

Totally agree, I lived with my girlfriend for three years before even asking her to marry me.

I also enjoy hearing about relationships through Danny's honeymoon phase lol.

Agreed; though I do think these things can be worked on. For example; my (now fiancee) ALWAYS turned the TV on before going to bed. She couldn't sleep without it. But she recognised that I farking hated that - I need almost total silence to go to sleep - and she learned to sleep without it. Her doing something like that proved to me that the whole living together thing wouldn't be so bad.

As long as your whole life doesn't turn into a compromise, I think a few here and there aren't so bad.

Is this not coming through on the RSS for anybody using podcast apps? I can see it in the RSS when I view the feed directly, but it's not coming through to the app (Pocket Casts in my case).

Edit: Disregard, it just came through now. Strange.

I'm getting the exact same thing - Using Pocket Casts as well.

Did you do anything differently to get it to show up ?

Can we just hire Paul Ryckert or something? I want him in the background of a Mario Party Party just commenting on everything Dan says.

This is an excellent series and some of my favorite content on Giant Bomb. Even though I would never go to Dan for advice (no offense, Dan), I still enjoy hearing the perspectives of the two hosts and their guest each week. They manage to tackle serious subjects while still remaining silly and jovial.

I hope that next time Austin is on the West Coast that he'll join a Danswers session. It'd be great to hear his thoughts and hear him debate Dan on serious topics. I know Dan is happy and set in his ways, but I'd love for a well-constructed argument from Austin to maybe broaden his horizons.

Usually, these are serious affairs with mild chuckles, but stuff like "The only thing I knew about this woman was that she loved groceries" plus Danny impressing him with Dad Jokes was magnificient.

And yeah, LIKING your job is a much more adult/mature way of looking at supporting one's self. We can't all have our dream job, (trust me on that one), but like Paul, I found one where I turn chaos into order (plus enough time away from escalated issues and office politics) make it managable, even make me proud!
