Demo Derby: PlayStation Underground: Volume 4 Issue 3

I fanboyed pretty hard when I saw Wild Arms 2 on the tip list, but seriously? That's such a simple timing puzzle. There's a puzzle at the very end that involves knowing mythology and the etymology of the days of the week, and every error you make triggers another battle. I could've used a fucking tip for THAT when I was 11.

They really should try to get a hold of one of the disks with Net Yaroze stuff on it an demo that one.

Anyways, Drew found his inner Vinny during the BMX segment.

That guy from Veruca Salt was wearing a PlayStation vest. Clearly he was a keen Threadz user.

Drew was putting his tester skills to the test during that BMX game.

I have no problems hearing the stuff they speak over here.

@danryckert you're catching @drewbert's "read the instruction, dismiss it, then immediately forget everything it said" disease from Metal Gear Scanlon. The reason your squares were disappearing was because you were collecting the crates, which converted the painted squares to points. As in, it was a good thing and you were cashing them in.

@danryckert@drewbert Parasite Eve 2 (can't speak for the first, I've never played it) was totally Resident Evil. It did have some RPG stuff going on and a weird battle system. I wouldn't just call it an RPG, though. Imagine if you took the magic system from Vagrant Story and plugged it into Resident Evil.

It would be funny if they were watching one of the video on the demo discs and saw one of them on it.

I think for Matt Hoffman tapping up or down then circle would do flips, whereas on Dave Mirra you could do tricks and flip at the same time which was awesome, also Dave Mirra had ragdoll!!
I'm a Dave Mirra fan.

I'm not shocked that Dan was put off by Parasite Eve. He's right that it opens with an opera but that game is a real gem of a thing. It's not a weird battle system like at all! What's not to love about a game where you get to run around shooting mutated animal monsters in Central Park.

Holy God, Andrew House. He looks amazing now compared to in this disk, that is amazing!

@danryckert Tomba 2 is legitimately a FANTASTIC game. The first one is great as well. You should play one of them on UPF or The Old Games Show.

Parasite Eve 2 is also a great game. It's more like Resident Evil than an RPG, it was much different than the first game.

I was at the UT game where one of the NFL "consultants" in this video, Tony Brackens, destroyed the Texas Tech kicker. It was awesome. Damn, that was 20 years ago.

"Uge" is in my experience a New York State/ Southern Connecticut thing. I say this having lived in both of those places over the years and heard people say "uge" every single day, over and over again.

Veruca Salt is actually a character from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

For being in high school, MGS1 was incredible. I remember I was in my first year of design school when that MGS2 trailer dropped... still have never played the game, but holy hell, it still looks incredible in context. It was just mind blowing at the time that was the jump from PS1 to PS2. I think the only other time I felt that without cynicism was Gears of War jump from xbox to 360.

I want to say that was during their spring cleaning video, but same idea. It certainly took everyone by surprise.

I remember being excited and watching that Parasite Eve 2 trailer a bunch of times. Then the game came out and was a weak-ass Resident Evil clone. Never got past that opening motel area. (I did enjoy the shower scene though.)
