i wish this was on pc, making a game with a controller sounds like the worst. Due to my arthritis I wouldn't even be able to do the tutorial.

The unfortunate thing about dreams is there is no way to play these without being in dreams meaning there is no mass market at the end of the day for your hard work.

Learn unity if you got a pc, I encourage anyone interested in learning how to make games to just start there.

@steveurkel: There will be an update for PSVR and you can use the move controllers with it. The move controllers are a bit of a hit and miss for me but it could be the solution.

Vinny's dedication in making quality content is aspirational. This quick look could easily have been just meandering through the tutorials real quick and then dream surfing but he made the time and commitment to give this expansive game its due. It's reminiscent of him practicing all the characters to beat Dan on Soulcalibur. The effort is very much appreciated, Vinny!

Amazing work Vinny. I know you were racking your brain trying to think about how to quick look this. Worked out well. Great way to showcase the tools. And I think it really benefitted from Abby requesting really obscure things. Really showed the breadth of the tools.

What a great video! Vinny taking the time to learn the ins and outs of Dreams so he and Abby could riff together was amazing. I would watch a playdate of them building levels together anytime.

Great video. Vinny just does so well in games that need a creative streak.

I'll still probably never play this since I have zero patience and talent with creation toola like this.

I certainly wouldn't mind a playdate or two though.

@steveurkel: For what it's worth, Abby's comment about PC at the beginning of this video is correct- Media Molecule have said that they do plan to bring Dreams to PC (it'll probably be some time from now, but it's supposedly coming!)

Additionally, MM say they have plans to allow users to export creations and standalone games OUT of Dreams and allow them to run on other devices, just like you're saying. I'm a bit bummed the GB guys seem unaware of most of this, as I've heard Vinny express his disappointment that you can't do this on the Beastcast a couple of times now. It seems like MM are super ambitious with what they want Dreams to be capable of, and are working hard on implementing pretty much every feature you could reasonably hope for in a development tool like this.

Woah. I know it isn't perfect, but that Star Wars??? even that Vanguard. Unreal. Especially when you look at what came before and how long it took to make a shoe. Mind-blowing. Truly confirming that there are incredibly talented people out there.

@samoopy: There has been zero concrete messaging on PC plans or exporting plans. The best they’ve given is “we’d like to someday, we’ll see how it goes” and a whole lot of “maybe”s, which means absolutely nothing.

@brad3000:

Quoting gamesindustry.biz:

"The last question put to Ettouney was also about the nature of Dreams as a PlayStation exclusive. Would Media Molecule and Sony ever make it available on PC or Mac, the platforms where so many creatives do their professional work?

'The answer to every question is 'yes', but Dreams needs to reach a lot of people first,' Ettouney said, with obvious hesitation. 'Our goal for Dreams is to last for 20 years, and keep expanding it and keep adding to it and keep improving it.'"

I'll grant you, I overstated when I said 'definitely coming'- that was based on my skimming the article when I should have read closer (and a clickbait headline didn't help- thanks, PC Gamer). However, I'd argue it's also more than a 'maybe' or a 'we'd like to'; it sounds like they probably have some concrete plans on their end, but they know there's a possibility that Sony pulls the rug out from under them for financial reasons before they can get to that stage.

Dreams is so cool. There is definitely something to "you could learn to use existing programming, modelling, or composing tools and that'd be a more beneficial skillset" - but this is so approachable for what it's offering, it gives you all of those tools in one relatively inexpensive package, and it offers easy avenues for creators to collaborate on projects in fun and interesting ways.

I would absolutely encourage people who are enjoying their time making stuff in Dreams to at least look into their options to do it on a grander scale elsewhere down the line, but I also think the potential this offers to get more people with a more "casual" interest into the process of game creation is vast.

Thanks to Vinny for all your hard work putting this together - I know what an intimidating QL this must have been to prepare for and plan out! I'd love to see more Dreams content in the future, whether that be you tinkering around in the tutorials (like that lengthy video from last year), a creation or exploration playdate, or an actual series trying to make something simple as a group.

As someone that’s been digital sculpting, modeling, and painting professionally for almost a decade; it’s wild watching someone like Vinny try to tackle putting a “dimple in a butt” or making a shoe.

I’m not entirely sure who this is for. It seems way too complex for just anyone to make something, but also not as fully featured as real programs that a professional would use. I feel like it would take as much time to learn how to sculpt in this as it would in a more traditional package on PC, but those PC skills could actually be used for things outside of dreams.

I’ve brought this up and people respond with “but you could just get it to play games!” That’s fine, but you still need people making them in order for that to be viable, and the people that would potentially make the best ones are assumingely already capable of making real games they could sell.

@deathmetaldan: This seems like a very accessible 3D content creator suite for a crowd very outside the technical PC realm, with a pretty friendly and unique curation system. Either folk will find their corner here to make and share unique projects, or intrigue someone to jump into the PC realm of design and engineering for more serious goals. Honestly, if my time weren't occupied with so many things already, I would sink a bunch of it in Dreams to make a "television series" for the platform and nowhere else (because that sounds fun to me).

I would not be against a new series with Vinny, Abby, and Alex creating a game in Dreams together. That would be really fun to watch because well.. this was really fun to watch. But who knows, maybe when dealing with too much logic it could be seen as boring or something.

TLDR; No plans for PC ports. Mouse is full on unsuited for this UI, and changing the UI to suit mouse would put Dreams on par with all the other slow-ass mouse driven creative packages out there, removing all the efficiency benefits of Dreams with motion controls. Sony owns Mm and they probably decide what Mm does in terms of PC ports. Porting it to PC would take time away from the PSVR port, the addition of Multiplayer, 3d printing, and also the PS5 version and its VR support and MP... PSVR 2 comes out in 2021-22, so that means Mm is tied up at least until 2022+. Playstation owners wouldn't feel great about Mm wasting their time porting this to PC instead of giving the Playstation version more features. And finally, keeping TWO different clients on two platforms, each with their own control schemes, that delays patches in a big way. Not to mention there definitely not being cross play in this without seriously gimping the PC version.

Phew.. That's a lot.

Extremely unlikely that this will ever show up on PC. And if it does, you'll have to suffer through an interface that is made for VR controllers, so I guess you should buy VR if you want to do this stuff right. 6dof control makes 3d editing so much faster, can't even begin to fathom just how clunky this would be with a mouse and no analog sticks or anything. This isn't laid out like a 3D package or game engine at all, it's very specifically made for motion controls, and in particular the moves. That's why it's so fast. A mouse would slow you down to a crawl just like all other mouse driven 3d apps. DS4 works fine, but you'll get full 3D movement with the moves whereas the DS4 is a mouse with heeeeella buttons and analog shit on it. (Half pressing trigger while holding lets you move very slowly and stuff like that.)

Not to mention the fact that most things are done in a painterly fashion in there. As in painting strokes in 3 dimensions with 6dof at once. The clunkiness I'd get with a mouse would just drive me insane. Mouse would be better the first day, when the DS4 controls felt like navigating a ui with a controller made for 84 fingered aliens. Or the absolute total confusion when using the Moves... Inside of the first week I was better and faster with the moves than I've ever been with a mouse. Like a LOT faster... Rotating an object and moving it up and to the left demands so many separate actions in a 3d package, with Dreams and the Moves I just move things in all directions at once, and it's so much faster. Even moving the imp around with the DS4 became faster and faster day by day. This shit takes a while to get used to, but once you do, the thought of controlling this with a mouse makes less and less sense day by day.

Think about it like this: How awesome would the VR creative apps Tiltbrush or Medium be with a mouse? Not even slightly awesome. Same goes for Dreams. They've got a non-motion-controlled interface now, it's all sticks and no motion, and it's HILARIOUSLY bad. Mouse would definitely be better than the DS4 without motion controls, but that's a pretty low bar.. Most of the things I do in Dreams are vastly improved with a controller with full on 6degres of freedom with on the fly sensitivity adjustment. A mouse has 2.. And zero analog sticks/triggers...

If you aren't in it for the art and still want this on the PC you would be MUCH BETTER OFF just using Unity with visual scripting tools like Playmaker or similar, or UT with its blueprints. It's more primitive than Dreams(the blueprints and playmaker parts I mean, not the flexibility of the engine.) but you'll have an interface that's actually made for a mouse and keyboard. AKA a very slow and precise way to do things.

IF they release on PC it's going to be way down the line. They're not done with VR yet, they have Multiplayer after VR, and then they have the PS5 version.. With VR and MP and all that stuff. Earliest you'd see Dreams on PC would probably be 2022 or so... Actually probably later, they haven't done 3D printing yet either.. Maybe after all that is done, PCVR is common enough that porting Dreams to PC actually makes sense... But still, the fanbase on the Playstation would feel short changed if Mm spent a couple of years on a PC port right after the PS5 came out... And then they'd have to keep both the PC and the PS versions updated with all the new stuff all the time, which again would make the PS product get fewer updates and new tools etc. I don't see any good reason why they would port this to PC. The market would be incredibly tiny. There are already TONS of creative apps on the PC made for PC.

You'll see Dreams exporting games made in dreams to PC before you'll see a PC version of the editor.

If you want Dreams, start saving up for a PSVR2 and motion controllers. This shit is gonna be lit AF once they roll out VR. No longer 6dof controllers, but also 6dof head and full 3D.. Holy shit, art apps in VR are so incredibly amazing compared to on a screen. I can just move around my livingroom instead of turning the object around with my controllers. Quickly leaning to the side to get a different angle when sculpting faces and stuff like that is just unfathomably intuitive. Once you've used Tiltbrush or Medium or SculptVR or whatever, going back to a 2D screen where you have to sort of guess the depth is very hard after creating in VR. And all those apps I mentioned are so far behind Dreams in capability it's not even fair to compare.

Anyways, the reason people think this is coming to PC is that Alex Evans said "pfhs yeah..." to the "is it coming to PC?" question during the Gameinformer quick questions. Some people didn't grasp the OBVIOUS sarcasm there because they wanted to believe, and these people have been spreading the PC port stuff for ages based solely on that and any vagueness in answers about PC ports after that. "We are a sony studio" somehow wasn't clear enough I guess.. At best, 2022. It's far more likely that they'll wait until the PCVR market is big enough for it to make sense. In other words; keep your fingers crossed for VR becoming a huge success! TBH, something like an Oculus Quest 2 port would make more sense than a PC port.

Vinny often delivers the best prepared and most informative QLs and for that, he has my greatest respect. I'd play this if it were on PC, but on PS4 so much of it seems to be about wrestling with the controls.

@mostlysquares: The game is already losing interest online, if Twitch is anything to go by. A PC version would sustain the game's life and attract talented people and industry professionals, who make amazing stuff in Unreal, etc. It would benefit everyone, even PS4/5 players, if the PC community gets a hold of it.

As for whether sculpting is better using motion vs a mouse; I think it's entirely subjective. The industry standard way of doing things is still via mouse, keyboard and graphics tablet, though. If MM were to bring the game to PC, I'd hope they would implement graphics tablet support, which would totally smoke doing things by motion control.
