@cheburashka: oh i dont know, Dan still seems completely baffled by basic recycling. I feel like your looking down on the typical "layman" with that comparison.

I think that's a bit unfair, in fact I recall a story in which Dan recycled the same shoe box to eat out of so he didn't have to do the dishes. If you ask me that saves water and disposable tableware which are hallmarks of someone familiar with recycling.

The premise that Dan would get anything out of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is laughable.

I think Fight Club still holds up. And the book is even better, and I read that after a decade of watching the film 10+ times.

That Churchill movie was good! Twitter just liked to complain about it because he won the oscar over a black actor that year. And apparently he said some weird hollywood actor stuff. But that doesn't diminish his Churchill.

I find it hard to believe that Dan has not watched The Deer Hunter. There is more to the movie than just the Russian roulette scene. It was one of the films that inspired Hideo Kojima.

I feel like V is kind of the breath DMC needed. Once you get the flow of summoning demons and keeping yourself safe and crowd controlling he got more fun. He’s just insanely overpowered when you unlock his full move set.

I will say playing DMC 5 first is a HUUUUUGGGEEEE mistake since the game doesn’t even bother telling you the majority of moves since it’s all legacy and when you get to Dante and his INSANE move set it’s gonna drown some people out if you’ve never played the previous games. I was just quietly shaking my head when Abby mentioned that.

@ultimaxe: I still had a great time with him in DMD with normal enemies but once bosses devil trigger they can take his pets out extremely quickly, I found. Definitely some high highs and low lows.

Happy 200 guys.

Abby, if you cant remember the title of a game that is in another language, don’t pull gibberish from your ass ‘or whatever,’ as it can make you look ignorant and/or dismissive of something. Just some friendly criticism.

Jeff does literally the same thing as Abby (and for a longer period of time) but for some reason you decided to criticize her and not him huh funny that wonder why

I'm like Alex, I still buy the movies I like on Blu Ray and get physical copies of games. I will buy digital if it's the only option or there is a really good sale, and I have Game Pass, but I still do prefer to actually "own" the things I purchase. So not super interested in Stadia so far.

@depecheload: I hadn’t caught that from Jeff, but if so, honest mistake since I truly don’t want to selectively single anyone out. That said, she does wave the inclusivity flag very high for the whole GB team and that comment came across completely counter. And again, I only meant it as friendly criticism in the hope she would do better next time. Jeff should not do that either, period.

“I heard that Churchill movie was not very good”

I can’t believe this guy used to run a movie review website. We take Dan’s clueless and childish opinions on films for granted, but Alex is not far behind when it comes to having no idea what he’s talking about.

Dan's right, Reese's had a product called "Inside Out" which was chocolate on the inside and peanut butter on the outside. I don't remember it tasting that good

Jeff was pensive when he first said it, and asked for clarification on the pronunciation, and he also didn't make a comment on par with Abby's "Or whatever the F*ck it's called".

That said I don't think pronouncing a non-english title wrong is that bad of a thing. Like I wouldn't get angry if someone said "Ninja Gay-den" instead of "Guy-den".

I remember on a Bombcast a while back, some guest had some dig at people who pronounce "Ikaruga" as "Ee-kuh-Roo-Guh", (instead of "Ee-kah-roo-gah" ) when that's probably how 99% of westerners pronounce it, the GB staff included.

@liquidsolidus: Yeah, mispronouncing is fine. As an American English speaker, I’m somewhere between those who call Iraq “I-rack” and the actual “Eer-oq.” The former sounding like one isn’t even trying and the latter sounding like someone studied abroad and is lording over every one else’s ignorance (perceived on their part). My whole thing is just don’t make up a word and then toss it off as irrelevant because you may not have been paying attention to others who have said the correct word out loud in a few instances.

As far as pronouncing Ikaruga with varying emphasis on different syllables... well, refer back to my above comment about the studying abroad folks. They can come off as just insufferable much of the time.

Awesome podcast, happy 200. Arbitrary numbermarks aside, I am happy this is still going, looking forward to whatever comes next.

Abby, I know you're gonna read the comments criticizing you on "Surreeko", when, to be fair, you've been to Japan, even if the title is made up nothing, I am surprised you have so little interest in a Japanese rooted game to know the logical Se-ki-roh phonetics of Japanese and write it off as 'or whatever' instead of 'good puzzler-ing' your way through it. A big deal? no- but ss a community friendly, I just wanted to note this because while it doesn't really bug me, it sounds like my mom talking on your podcast instead of you, the young and informed hip gamer.

also, 'or wahtever' is heard by a lot of souls players who just got a meaty release and the tone is, well, careless. Dark souls was a big deal in games as was metal gear, even if you love how great things are 'for the switch', it helps to actually know a little more.

*edit: oh wow there are way more of these comments than I thought. Alright yall I think she gets it. This is the one time I jump in to go hey, culture resepect, dudette, and or side with the comment section.

That all said, I probably would have said the same thing at 25 or younger. God damn, I'm old.

Bloodborne is really easy when you get to know how the game works. Being my first Souls game I used to struggle at first but once I learned the core mechanics, I was first-trying most of the bosses. To me that game has one of the best difficulty curves ever and it's actually the other games fault for letting players get away with a ton of mindless mistakes even in the late game.

I feel like Dan is the only one that watches movies to enjoy them. The others came off as film snobs, no offense. I just can’t belu I heard Gangs of New York sucks and Melissa McCarthy movies are good in the same conversation?. Also yeah cut down on soda. I drastically did and lost like 25-30 lbs no joke.

"I once went on a date with a cop, which was insane, why would I do that?"

Perhaps because cops are individuals like everyone else, and their job doesn't define them. I love Abby, I think she's been one of the best things that's ever happened to Giant Bomb, but sometimes her wokeness goes full circle to being infuriatingly close minded.

@sintes: bloodborne and souls games also have online summoning, which is pretty much the opt in Easy mode.. and that’s been taken out from Sekiro ! :-)

the games aren’t impossible but there’s no denying that there’s a massive learning curve and massive time investment

Amy Sedaris is the best! Abby's got great taste in comedy.

Also, I am someone who laughs at gratuitous or extreme violence. It's not me being like "Haha, yay death!" but more just my reaction to the ridiculous stuff I'm seeing. When it's so extreme it just becomes absurd to me. It's hard to explain but I can see why some would be unsettled by that. Having said that seeing stuff like throats or wrists being slit makes me want to die as it makes me so unsettled.

Also Dan saying that this is like "Flanders explaining apple cider to Homer" might be the best/most appropriate Simpsons reference ever on this podcast. lol. I just imagined the sound of a slide whistle as that hockey conversation continued.

If you have a problem with "serika or whatever the fuck", get a fucking grip. I'm so fuckin glad they don't open the wiki page for every subject of conversation to appease you weirdos. What a dry (but accurate!!!!!) podcast that would be. Goddamn join a cause or something, you all have some energy you need to expend

Happy 200th guys! I'm really bummed Vinny wasn't here to hear how he would try to add something on the end of the number. Haha.

Also, can't believe Leo DiCaprio wasn't even mentioned. Give me any movie with him and I'll watch. Regardless of quality. Even the Romeo and Juliet one... Maybe.

Also, I love Jeff's fascination with what is essentially a bonfire. "and it respwans all the enemies" is the first thing that comes to mind when you think bonfire and dark souls.

I found it amusing that Dan mentioned watching MacGruber on a bad date, but he didn't mention the same movie for the movie-you-like-but-most-people-don't discussion just a few minutes earlier, because it's a perfect fit for that category as well.
