Hey guys, thanks for doing this in video. I haven't actually listened to the Beastcast before (except Dan's departure episode) mainly due to my millennial need for visual stimulation. If this keeps up, I'll definitely keep tuning in!

Don't tease me like that guys :p I've always dreamed of having Beastcast with video. It probably is me being a philestine but that has always been my barrier to getting into your pod. I'm surprised they spent so much more time on the PS5 when nothing was actually shown and didn't talk at all about the actual real things that Xbox showed off with the series X.

Seeing things like auto-hdr where hdr is added potentially to ever single xbox one, 360 and og one available bc games is insane.

Quick resume with it's 4-6 second jumps between games that are kept in a save state on the SSD, they hopped between games on Microsoft's youtube page, Austin Evan's page, and Digital Foundry.

The velocity architecture which is a whole new i/o setup, something that hasn't changed for 30 years!

There is some incredible innovation that was shown this week, and not just talked about.

Some of them are too busy inadvertently (?) being a part of the marketing department for Sony. Once again, we are to believe a noticeably better SoC and RAM are ignorable and "SSD SSD SSD!!!"

Also, some of what they said wrt storage on SX vs PS4 was just flat out wrong.

Let's be real, most of the things users are going to notice, if we go by Jeff, is going to be noticed on either system. At least Sony could have demoed a last-gen title running on the new system to show some loading like MS, but I am guessing straight ports with no optimization would not give them much of an edge and that doesn't fit the somewhat-BS narrative they are trying to set up online/in social media (and unfortunately, it is kind of working, because people are stupid and are hearing what they want to, and heaven forbid that be anything other than "ra ra Sony").

Also - ENOUGH of this "but but GDC" excuse. The PR and mindshare game are what they are, and doing basically just this for the week, right after what MS did on Monday (and everything else they have done since late last year), is bafflingly stupid. I guess the PS4 success is leading to similar behavior that the PS2 success led to (or rather - people continue to be ignorant of the past and so we once again repeat/echo it).

This is awesome! I kind of hope they do more video podcasts in the future. Love these people.

I'm an older millenial and I actually kind of found it exhausting to watch live? I never understood the reason for the video Bombcast but hey for those that like it sure. This was my first time actually watching a Bomcast/Beastcast and man.. having to sit on the couch just watching people talk for 3 hours was err.. not great. When it's in audio format I'm typically doing errands, running or going about town. Just sitting there watching the video is definitely not for me.

The people in tech keep talking about the matrix like it's a good thing because they want to achieve complete immersion, like you're really a person in this virtual world. That part of the matrix worked properly. People felt alive in this world and did stuff while their body was out there in the real world.

@binarygod: Neither company has done a great job presenting what difference a better SoC and RAM will do, because at this stage telling people it has more TFLOPs is just rote at this point. and peoples biggest concerns with games now are no longer how good it looks, but how big the damn things how, how long they take to download/patch/install and how fast they load. SSDs are already common in PCs so people can see the vast improvement they make. SoC/CPU improvements have been a thing forever. HDD technology was rather stagnate for years, with the good stuff being prohibitively expensive.

I don't know why it took Abby to make me realize it, but even as an adult I could be eating lunchabels RIGHT NOW.

I honestly didn't really reflect on the conversations around the pandemic situation to be dark until Vinny said he thought this was starting to get a bit too dark. And I still don't really feel like it was all that dark. None of the darker topics felt too dark for me.

But then again, I'm one of those who finds topics like that to be very interesting and also very important to talk about. Because if we don't, then those topics are going to start scaring people more than necessary.

And I'm also the kind of person who loves it when those topics are brought up in all kinds of fiction, like most dystopian sci-fi movies. Black Mirror is basically catnip for me.

I guess I'm a person who for some reason thrives and feel more alive from being exposed to the darker sides of humanity and our minds.

But I get it, some people get more uncomfortable when theses topics are brought up, so I understand Vinny's concern and why he tried to bring it back to something not so dark.

Man, all of those teases near the end sound so good. Heck this is all so good. Love and thanks to you all - staff(front & back of house), mods, customers and more - I know that being able to come here and enjoy GB a/v and settle into the vibe means an awful lot to me and I can only imagine it means that to others rn.

(n.b. I'm cool with Jeff/everyone talking through things, everyone affected by the pandemic will need to talk through a *lot* and people need to know it's good to unburden. The realness is very appreciated. also vid podcast ftw)

With everything going on what are the chances these new consoles don't even come out this year.

The CPU architecture for the PS5 sounds great, but surely if it's just a better design for a CPU then Intel and AMD would be doing it too?
If its only use is in a games console that's fine, but that's 3D rendering and i know a lot of companies outside of games that would want that, so why haven't we seen designs like this elsewhere already?
Something smells fishy, game developers have already said they are impressed with the PS5 so that's promising, but are those AAA developers with R&D labs who can wrangle this thing? By the time we start seeing games that do make use of it, will better CPU's be out for PC?
They suggested using it wouldn't be complex, but i still think the only places we'll see the benefits are through Sony published exclusives, multi platform games have to be developed for existing hardware and won't maximize its use.
There's also the experience outside of games, the latest consoles are pretty lacking on the front end especially the Xbox, but i'm wondering if the "old style" of CPU would be better at multitasking, so while Sony's could do the heavy stuff faster, MS's could support the system better as a whole, while maintaining compatibility for other platforms which is good for 3rd parties, and me as a PC user.

It is funny when Vinny started talking about reselling a digital license, because I am pretty sure that is what MS wanted to do at the start of Xbox One lol. I think MS saw the future but tried to jump the gun a little too fast.

It's funny that all the people who prep and hoard do it because they're worried about other people doing the same. Snake eating its own tail.
