Not to start off GOTY by immediately complaining but I really don't like this format change where most of these podcasts are just them recapping everything that came out this year. Might just skip these until the actual awards start.

Just jumping into GOTY category? Is this to cut down on repeating arguments?

Disappointed this is the same format as last year. First time I'm gonna pass on GotY pods.

FTR I appreciate this new format because it allows more discussion of games that may not get the "oxygen" to be talked about in specific categories. Also nice to have a reminder of what came out this year and not get drowned out by recency bias during the awards.

Bummer they stuck with the same format as last year. Ill ended up skipping all the podcasts until the actual categories this year.

Game of the Year season, baby!

I definitely hope we get a few of the more "novelty" categories this year - I love all the heavy-hitters but things like Best New Character, Best Shopkeeper, Best Use of FMV, and Best Big-Ass Ramp actually bring up some interesting discussions about the minutia of games that might otherwise not get discussed in detail.

That said, I still loved last year's discussions and I'm looking forward to seeing how these go! Will be working my way through Pokémon and Outer Wilds as I listen.

This format is such a waste of potential, the weird categories where the best part of the GotY stuff.

Just hearing people repeat what they already said in the podcasts again with nobody really disagreeing or arguing is super dull and uninteresting. Guess I'm just gonna skip most the first couple of days, hope you other folks enjoy this format more than me.

Yeah this has really been lost. Whether they were cool ways to rank games non traditionally or funny, they were just about always the best part... well plus the funny videos.

Unfortunately the newer format still isn't very interesting for me because I enjoy the conflicts that they are trying to avoid by doing this

GB listened to your complaints from last year and are happy to announce, that they are not changing anything.

I’m not a fan of this format either but at least with these time stamps I can skip around to hear them recount games I care about and skip the ones I haven’t even played.

I really appreciate the format of this. The coverage for games untied from Game Of The Year-isms before the isms starts in future videos means it gives way more context for any discussion coming forward, rather than assuming everyone's played every game and is already fully aware of the positives/negatives/anything else.

And it's cool to see discussions happen without the sorta hmm arguing over placements in a top ten list that the staff know are...just...pointless? Same as all top 10 lists. But I get that people get caught up on lists for some reason, and that's fine, but opinions change day by day, so this type of discussion on the bigger games of the year (in terms of coverage/attention from media, not in terms of the actual quality of games without a marketing budget in the independent realm) is grand.

This Ace Combat erasure will not stand.

Also this format is tired. I get that using an online community as a barometer can be problematic for a million reasons, but seeing them just kind of put their head down and ignore the general consensus that the format is a bummer. But, ultimately it's their thing and they can do whatever.

If you could snap your fingers and have any game ever made get the RE2 treatment (Almost entirely remade but with the same general constructs as the original game) what would y'all pick?

im at 51 minutes in and the "one of those"-counter is over 2 000.

Keeping this format is an... interesting choice? I agree that it gives games better attention that otherwise might get overlooked, and makes the discussions less confrontational right off the bat. But considering the marathon last year's recordings were, and the fact they've only got a week this time... well, I just don't think it's worth it.

And real talk, it makes the whole series really top heavy in terms of getting through a bunch of what feels like filler to get to the actual awards.
