Mailbag: GBE Mailbag: Whoopie Pies, Tamagotchi's That Won't Die, and a Big Alex Surprise

After Alex's stream last year, I spent months scouring area brick and mortar stores and internet auction sites for dodgy, secondhand drumkits that were too damn expensive and probably broken.

But fuck, Alex made drumming seem so fun! I never owned any of the RB games, either, so I had to get a PS3 drumkit since I can't export anymore.

That's fucking rad. @alex is a beast drummer too. Makes me really happy. Ear happy.

I am the crazy person who made these drums for Alex.

I am totally going to put together a tutorial video on how to put together a set for yourself for those who are interested. It'll probably be a few weeks, but I'll share it here and on the Giant Bomb forums when its done.

Alex's anxious response to someone offering to build a custom rock band drum set for him is something I can relate to on a very deep level.

Also, whoever did that for Alex is fucking rad. Big props.

@dumo: I'd be really interested to see that. Asking as someone who knows nothing about the subject, could these also be used as a normal electric drum kit?

@tommytours You can totally use these as normal electronic drums, you'd just need to provide your own drum brain. I picked up a used Roland DM5 a few years ago to try this out, and it works pretty much flawlessly. The drums use a standard 1/4 inch audio jack, so they should work with any drum brain that those cables can be plugged into.

Yo I am absolutely here for more Rock Band streams if y'all like it. Having a full band would be amazing too but I loved the solo drums stream at extra life. Good shit to Dustin!

@dumo: Nice work! My RB2 drums is falling apart and salvaging it may be the best case scenario. Hopefully Alex finds a way to attach the cymbals for pro drums or something.
