Man, so like, you think Alex has like at least $500 worth of coins?

If it's closer to $1000 he can probably spring for a new PC or a 1080 or something

@vinny That coin with the "RF" on the back (?) and the hole in the middle looks like it might be 25 French centimes. Or maybe from some French colony. The motto up top "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Freedom, Equality, Fraternity) is the French motto, at least.

And holy shit, I totally remember that bad cover of "Laid To Rest". I was hoping I'd never have to hear it again.

Dudes! This whole thing is super fun! I'm not even done watching, and I felt compelled to comment and let you know how much I'm enjoying this.

Next up: Vinny broadcasts his first HAM radio broadcast out over the internet while Alex does a full playthrough of Thumper in VR

This please!

Seeing Vinny so enthusiastic and nerding out with this stuff is amazing, I love watching people get super into their interests.

GH2 has an awesome song list, the Thunderhorse throwback caught me off guard. This stream was such an awesome time, thank you Vinny and Alex.

This is great! I didn't realise I'd be so interested in coin collecting but vinny is doing a good job of making it interesting. Alex is doing a great job as well, rockband and numismatics who knew.

I also love how Vinny watching the monitor lining up the closeup coin shot looks like hes staring deeply into my soul while spitting coin knowledge.

The strange "cog" coin that Vinny was holding up was an Agorah from Israel. It could be a standard one, or possibly one from the Israel's 25th anniversary.

@paulunga: I can confirm it's a French coin, RF means République Francaise (French Republic), it's 25 centimes, 1/25 of a Franc our old currency because now we have the Euro of course.

Man, I didn't expect to feel weird about reading that post. I'm not opposed to him selling the collection at all, but selling things that are sometimes upwards of 200 years old (wasn't one of those coins even from the 18th century?) in order to buy something that'll last around 6-8 years - if even that long considering they're professionals who need their stuff to be fairly up to date - really feels wrong.

I'd almost feel obliged to invest the money into something more lasting than that.

I think this loses a bit of it's speciality afterwards, because the live stream somehow had a good chat going. Still really entertaining, I'm only disappointed that Vinny didn't sing at all.

Did my grandfather know @alex 's grandfather?

My grandfather served in the 442nd which was an all Japanese-American unit in World War 2, of which Alex says his grandfather was a captain. My grandfather was Japanese-American and joined the army when he was 16 (we think) to get out of the internment camps. He also left his grandkids his coin collection. I'm trying to find out more about his collection since we didn't know anything about until he passed away.

The 442nd is a very fascinating story if you're interested in history. They were the most successful unit of their size in World War 2 and never left a man behind. They fought in the Italian front and found the Lost Battalion.

What a very odd stream in many ways. Thanks, guys.

I can watch Alex play some instruments all day, the charity stream and his drumming marathon was just mesmerizing and super awesome to witness live, hanging out with the chat during that was some of the best time I had on Giant Bomb.

This was a very Giant Bomb stream - definitely a complement :)

Always entertaining to hear enthusiastic folks discuss something they are enthusiastic about, regardless of the subject.

Also, this reminded me that Guitar Hero II is definitely my favorite of the GH / Rock Band games, mainly because of the killer soundtrack (covers be damned). Even most of the bonus songs are pretty memorable too.

@undeadpool: I'm not only in awe of his general music prowess, I'm in awe that he can play a game like Guitar Hero so well AND talk to Vinny at the same time. I can barely do that with remedial games, let alone a rhythm game he's playing on the highest difficulty most of the time.

Really great stream, Vinny and Alex! Thanks!
