I dont understand why Dan still claims aioli isnt mayonnaise when it clearly is, as Brad says, mayonnaise with extra stuff. By his logic, a vegetarian could add garlic to a steak and say 'I dont eat meat. Oh this? No its got garlic with it so it isnt steak'. I could understand it if he said hes never had plain mayonnaise, that would make sense. Im surprised this guy is still alive with all the dumb stuff he has divulged so far

@peakborn: According to wikipedia the eggs are not an essential part of aioli but will enhance the taste. Garlic and olive oil are the main ingredients.

The Dan & coffee thing is normal-ish I'd say. Coffee, like beer, is an acquired taste that even I often wonder why people get used to it.

I love coffee now, but I was a tea drinker only until age 20.

Dan is super fine, to me he just reminds me of Brendan Fraser from Blast from the Past. Hiding in a bunker for his entire life until GiantBomb hired him :D. It's not just his food experience, also games and life in general.

Commercial mayo, and most home recipes, contain less than 10% egg yolk, and its purpose is as an emulsifier, it doesn't contribute a significant flavor to the final product. Most mayo is flavored with salt, sugar and mustard. Mayonnaise is also very low in cholesterol, Hellman's has 2% of the recommended daily value in a serving, for example. It is about 50% oil, though, so of course it's high in fat, but it's used in the same way as other fats so I'm not sure what healthy stuff you thought it would be made of? I guess a lot of people think of it as a dairy product because it's white, but that's just light reflecting off of the countless fat bubbles in the emulsion.

Egg free mayonnaise is easy to make; almost anything with some texture can be used in place of the egg to serve as the emulsifier, though getting it really stiff like the commercial stuff requires a strong emulsifier like soy lecithin.

I don't know, folk rock is a very particular rural sound that conveys the loneliness of living there. It's downbeat and broken hearted most of the time, it doesn't have the mass appeal of something more positive, like Sweet Home Alabama. Also I would like to point out that the salt on salt licorice is not the same as table salt. Table salt is Sodium Chloride while Salmiak is Ammonium Chloride.

Can someone clarify: Did Dan ever actually eat mayonnaise and didn't like it or is he just disgusted by the thought even though he clearly loves garlic mayonnaise?

I've heard most of those songs on regular ass radio in Germany and Poland. Mostly at night while driving down the freeway or some backwoods road.

I keep cringing at about every third sentence Dan says. However I gotta say I appreciate Dan's honesty and the fact that he gives zero fucks what anyone thinks. Dan's alright.

Meh... It's fine, don't get me wrong, but I'm never a fan of guitar just for the sake of guitar... It needs to fit into the song. That's why I'm not a fan of Malmsteen or Satriani. Those guys are amazing guitarist and it's very impressive technically but it has no soul... It's just guitar to be guitar.
