Man, some of this music sounds A LOT like Banjo-Kazooie music, especially that castle tune.

I played Retrograde, because it was free on PS+, but I uninstalled it after the second or third level because the music was really, really droney and it made the whole game boring. You can't make a music game without good enthralling music.

My favorite Mickey game was Mickey Mania for the Genesis, though (again, the superior Mickey-game version). Probably an unpopular opinion, but something about that game just struck a cord with me.

Maybe unpopular but I 100% agree with you. Basing levels off classic Mickey Mouse cartoons was sheer genius. That Steamboat Willie opening? Thinking about that in HD gives me chills.

Just a shame the levels were so fucking short. Because it's conceptually brilliant.

If the controls were too laggy, they should have checked the Options to see if there was a Mouse Sensitivity setting.

That Jack in the Box reminded me a lot of the third boss in Donkey Kong 64. Speaking of which, I'm getting a Rare developed N64 platformer vibe from this game. It looks really neat, too bad about the shitty jumping [even though ducking under the glove was the solution in that boss fight]. I'll wait for this to go on sale.

I preordered the game on PS3 and hadn't played it before I saw this quicklook. Thank fuck there is no jump lag on the PS3 version, it plays perfectly.

Yup. Now that can't be unseen.

If I remember my History of Animation class from college correctly, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks initially designed Mickey's ears like that as a time-saving solution so the animator -- for the first one, Iwerks himself -- wouldn't have to deal with perspective on them.

Looks visually interesting for a fun Disney game for everyone but when any game with rather limited controls to have the controls somewhat laggy, it's just a little sad as a game like this could appeal to a lot of people but they might get turned off from the delayed controls.

Sooo, ducking under the glove wasn't your first choice it seems. Or your second.. or third.. or 5th.
It's ok though, you did show how terrible the jumping actually is as well

@eternalgamer2: While I tend to agree you could hear Jeff press the button at the end and see how Mickey Didn't jump for like nearly a second afterwards. I played the demo and it didn't feel great. I didn't think it felt as bad as they were saying but it definitely wasn't great.

I agree. I noticed no lag when I played through on PS3. Maybe it's just a 360 problem or something. Either way, it sucks for people that run into it, because without it the game is pretty cool. I had a lot of fun playing it.

Yep. I actually played it again recently and, nostalgia or not, I think it holds up. The Steamboat Willie opening is objectively great, because of all the stuff they jammed into that small little level. And who wouldn't love that black & white-to-color transition when the game was released?

On a different topic, the new Mickey Mouse cartoons are actually quite cool. Kind of a throwback to the ones from the 30's but with a modern edge.

Also I haven't seen the quick look yet, I'm just responding to what I see in the comments. But I guess this is one of those cases where Brad doesn't initially like the game and therefore gets overly picky and suddenly everything sucks about the game. "The jumping feels terrible, I mean LOOK at that. I pushed the jump button and he totally DIDN'T jump!"

No, Brad, you didn't push the jump button. :/

Also all of this is pure speculation, since I still haven't seen the QL.

Yeah well just wait 20 minutes before commenting, why on earth would you ever just speculate that when the video is in front of your face?

Yeah, he should have ducked, but you can hear when Jeff is playing that the jump is really delayed. I recommend you don't watch Brad QL's anymore.

I've finally had time to complete the game, and as I mention in the quote above there is no control lag at all, jumps, turns etc are spot on. When I died, it was my fault, and yes for a while on the Jack in the Box I forgot to duck too. The PS3 version plays very well, there is some slow down but it's minimal. Lag though as mentioned is nonexistent.

I have a fondness for the original 16 bit title and this game does it justice (on the PS3 at least). I'm very happy with my purchase.

I really hope they patch the 360 version.

Sad to hear that the jumping is laggy in this game.

Can't speak for the 360 version but on the PC/Steam version jump isn't as laggy as it appears to be in this video. In fact it's got no noticeable lag.

I actually never bought the original for my Mega Drive even though it was easily one of the highest rated games at the time. 90% across the board if I recall correctly. Instead I bought Duck Shot which I loved to bits. Always liked Donald more than the mouse.

Having said all that, this remake is good fun. Neat little platformer.

I loved Quackshot, that was the Disney game I played to death on Genesis. I rented Castle and World plenty though. I really hope they something similar for Donald.

I was surprised to hear about the hate for this game on UPF since I enjoyed it a lot for the PS3, so it explains a lot that they were playing the XBLA version that is busted.

Despite everything and all the comments I think this game looks and sounds beautiful. Hopefully they can patch the one major issue. It shouldn't be too hard comparable to making this thing right?
