The thing about the Xbone, performance and available power will get a lot better, tricks will get figured out, code will evolve and 1080p will no longer become such a difficult thing despite those 32 megs of esRAM being 16 megs too small to painlessly enable 1080p, but it will still be worse than PS3-360 multiplat differences (and reviewers should start marking down Xbone versions like they did with PS3 versions). If you want 343Halo Forza Gears there is only one choice of a current-generation console.

- Things told to everyone wondering what to get and worrying about the future, and if you want Japanese games you want PS4 and looking for a $99 WiiU deal

Attorney @vinny was goddamn amazing!

Also let it be known that inverted Y-axis is the NATURAL way. It is how your head works.

You PULL to look up.

Inverted X-axis is for war criminals though.

I remember the 100 prick allergy test. It sucked. I was allergic to literally everything. I was itching like I will never itch again and they didn't allow me to scratch. That shit is a horror story.

I couldn't figure out what Brad was trying to say about the FTL door UI he talked about, but in the PC version you can open single doors by clicking on them. It sounds like he was saying you can drag over groups of doors to open in the iPad version, but how are you not accidentally opening doors all of the time?

Yeah I was confused too. I'm 95% sure we've been able to click open individual doors for a long time. Trying to deal with fires would be a nightmare otherwise.

I'm assuming he knew this and just the phrasing was odd.

In the Ipad version you have to click on the door control system before you can start opening doors, and that's literally all you can do until you click back out of it.

Then you can just trace a path from any fire to the nearest airlock, opening all the doors you pass over. It's okay, but I think I prefer a mouse.

I don't think his sentiment of "make new stuff don't just put out Mario Kart 12 and Zelda 13" is that outlandish. They created these wonderful series that many have enjoyed over the years, and bless them for it, but I think it's time for some new blood on the roster.

I've always toyed with the idea of diving into Animal Crossing, but I'm quite afraid of having the same experience as Vinny.

I loved Harvest Moon though, so maybe I'm the right kind of person to play it.

The "Star Fox-alike" for 3DO is Starfighter 3000

I remember this being a "cover demo" for an issue of PC Gamer when they came with demo CDs. I played the demo and remember it being terrible. It was released on PC after Terminal Velocity, which is a far, far better game.

I used to play with inverted Y, which I assume is a result of my first 3D games being PC flight sims. I deliberately switched to non-inverted a couple of years ago, as it's kind of a pain to have a non-standard (and sometimes non-supported) control preference. I was playing Final Fantasy XIII, and figured an 80-hour JRPG with almost no action component was a really good opportunity to power through the muscle memory.

In a lot of ways, I still think inverted controls are more natural in a third-person context -- and there's a reason most early third-person games had "inverted" controls. Think about Super Mario 64 -- you're controlling Lakitu with the C buttons, and if you want to look to the right, Lakitu has to move to the left. Pressing left to move left is, technically speaking, inverted in that case. (Of course, things get weird if we're talking about a third-person shooter like Ratchet & Clank.)

The only reason I decided to switch is that I wanted to pick a single control paradigm, and I figured that I should pick the most supported one. It's what made sense for me, but I don't think it's the One True Way.

I don't understand the hostility toward inverting axes. It's trivial for games to support it (they're just multiplying the input by -1, right?), and there's a significant contingent of people (i.e. most of Japan, I think?) used to inverted axes. At the risk of sounding like that guy, it's pretty insensitive to act like anyone inverting X is crazy when control preference is so based on what you grew up playing (and maybe more importantly, not playing). If first-person shooters never got popular in the west, I suspect our definition of "inverted" might be the opposite.

I don't like inverted controls but I drive a forklift at work most days for the past year and a half and yeah, up/down, tilt back/forward, sideshift left/right are all reverse on the controls for what actually happens on the lift. It's completely natural for me and I've never had a problem with that with anything else but I DO have problems if I drive a lot in a week and I forget how to properly turn a car(forklifts pivot on back wheels not turn on front) because I could drive the lift 10-15 hours in a week and my car like 2 hours.

@vortextk:

imagining trying to turn a car based on a back-wheel pivot sounds pretty hilarious to be honest :) having driven swathers that pivot on front wheels, the turning can get pretty entertaining

are the controls on a forklift based on dual joysticks? I am curious as to how that works. guessing it works something like a skid steer, with one stick for lift control and one for moving the entire vehicle?

So I haven't listened in almost 2 months, so as not to hear anything about Dark Souls 2, because as we all know Brad has no filter and a huge double standard when it comes to spoiling unknown or unexpected aspects of games.

Tune back in this week, Brad blurts out GREAT GREY WOLF SIF with no warning whatsoever.

I throw my headphones on my desk, my office freaks out. THANKS BRAD! I knew I could count on Shoemaker...

@brendan: I've never been a Nintendo guy either. I played exactly one Zelda and it was on the old brick Gameboy. It was neat but I got lost and put it away in order to play Kirby instead which I loved. So for me it's always been king of bizarre to see a lot of people get really excited for another Mario Kart or another Zelda, again and again. I liked Gears of War but I was kind of over it by the third installment.

@kbohls: Nintendo are completely directionless and confused as a company right now. They're still struggling with things like cohesive unified accounts and HD development in 2014. Meanwhile Iwata wants to dive into the non-wearable (?) QoL market.

Jeff not being happy with them isn't surprising. A lot of people aren't. Even those like myself who see them as an immensely talented and innovative company.
