How the heck is it that two podcasts this week about videogames both go into The Tree That Owns Itself? Is everything I listen to just bleeding over?

I don't think it counts if the same person bring it up both times.

Everytime I hear people give a hand job to Zelda I want to yell in their face “Have you heard of the Witcher!?” like seriously Zelda is such a lame story of “Blonde Blue eyed fairy boy who embodies good, vs generic evil man & there’s a Princess involved” that's a little kid's fairy tale level of black & white. It’s so annoying hearing all of this overblown Zelda love especially since the GB guys shat all over The Witcher which is literally a better more narratively complex version of Zelda. I just feel like if this wasn’t called Zelda the many flaws would be highlighted not handwaved, it’s just like TF man what are people seeing in this game. I just want someone to praise this game without saying "...in a Zelda game" or "...for a Zelda game" anyone at all would be nice. IDK not since Rayman Legends & Origins came out and got ignored while inferior Mario games got 5s and 10s have I been more annoyed with nostalgia love with a game series.

Breath of the Wild is the polar opposite of the Witcher games. The Witcher games have a mature, interwoven narrative that keeps you playing through the clunky game parts. BoTW is all about systems and exploration. It's the most enthralling environment I've ever experienced in a game.

@awkwardloser: Have you played BOTW? Because I've played both and totally disagree that the W3 is not a "more narratively complex version of Zelda".

I'm gonna guess you haven't actually played it or you wouldn't be comparing the two. Completely different games going for completely different things. Zelda isn't an RPG.

@awkwardloser: Yikes. I get the feeling you haven't played Breath of the Wild. And I don't feel like it's even realistic to compare the two. They have tremendously different goals and mechanics.

I love the Witcher series, so don't get me wrong. It's one of the best game series out there and it's obvious the CDPR deserves all of their success. But BoTW is a game I love so much more.

No reason to get aggressive because you like a different series better, that was never even in the conversation you're upset about.

EDIT: And I don't think any employee of this site has ever shat on the witcher. I'm also really baffled that someone would be so upset that people are happy...

Maybe it's too simplistic, but I assume the cancellation of the NES classic is to free up manufacturing resources for doubling the Switch's production.

Re: Alec Guinness aging more than Jimmy Smits. Same answer for the folks that point to Inner Light Picard and modern day Patrick Stewart.

We've done experiments based on UV exposure and the radical difference in skin aging when comparing clothed parts vs exposed.

One guy was living on a desert planet with two suns in the boondocks where the nearest civilization was a hive of scum and villainy. The other guy was planetary royalty on what looked like a nice temperate world.

Picard was living for decades as an iron weaver (which I assume means blacksmith) on a world whose sun was going nova and the other has lived the life of a well compensated actor.

I always assumed the Clone Wars occurred at about the same time period to Luke as WWII would have been to the '77 teenaged audience of Star Wars, which would explain how a mid 30's Ewan McGregor could age into mid 60's Alec Guiness even accounting for changing standards of Hollywood makeup and lifestyles. That got botched, like a lot of things, but its still close enough that it's not crazy.

As an established Austin resident, I have to say that all those same concerns absolutely also apply to us. The overcrowding with a lack of ability for the city to compensate for it, the excess random trash (the nonstop major festivals and events don't help), and the cost of living (while from what I understand aren't quite as extreme) are all significant challenges of living in a relatively small and increasingly overpopulated, but otherwise incredibly diverse and wonderful city. The housing though, now that's a sore point. As a social worker in the specific position of supportive housing for our homeless population I have to say it's a struggle beyond words. For even the average person here it can be a major pain in the ass finding affordable housing without multiple roommates, especially early on in a career or being new to the city.

I turned it on before heading to the doctor earlier for a few minutes and it was just constant spam in the chat about how much people are sick of the zelda talk. I guess I can see why since they have talked about it nearly every week on the bombcast especially with peter brown on. I think this is where the burnout from the zelda comes from?

I bought into all the hype for zelda and about 30 hours in I hit a road block where Im like whats the point? This isnt as fun to me as say Nier or hollow knight which are games that the combat and exploration is rewarding in itself where in Zelda even the exploration is frustrating since your rewards break or are simply not really rewards at all. I will finish the game for the story but at 30 hours in I have no desire to hunt down all the shrines except to get stronger, which seems to be the only real way to progress is through shrines and korok seeds - which are the two most boring parts of the game.

i know people always want game talk tempered, but it was nice to hear them gush ecstatic about BotW for an extended period, even if there's been a lot of talk about it lately.

Buying Flinthook now as the last thing I need is a new game; thanks @unastrike@brad!

I'm getting real tired of skipping like 20 minutes each week for the, seemingly, mandatory Zelda chat. I'd love to play it, but at this rate the internet keeps showing me all the good stuff so what's the point?

I may have to skip over the Zelda talk as well. I guess I just don't find that game as interesting as everyone else. I don't feel the exploration is as great as everyone else seems to.
