Giant Bombcast 477: The Husband Who Owned Himself

Great podcast and great podcast title, thanks guys. I didn't know how it would go not having a more traditional Bombcast crew and quite enjoyed the varied conversation style.

Love Idle Thumbs, I've been a listener and fan since Brad guested on one of their episodes. This was a great episode.

Giant Bomb east reaalllyyy needs some new staff. This podcast was kind of bad.

This episode is when Drew's departure really sunk in. Especially with Jeff being out of the office this week. The Idle Thumbs guys seem nice and all but they were just exhausting to listen to. Thanks for holding it down, Jason and Brad.

Wow. I typically don't like when they have guests, but the thumbs brought some interesting, deep discussion.

first bombcast that ive turned off having no intention of going back and listening to. and ive listened to them all 100%

Im not much of a fan of IT, but I found them, Bradster and A-Striker did real good with an odd lineup in this episode. That exhausting was good energy to me.

This certainly won’t go down as a vintage Bombcast.

Jeff’s MIA and without him Brad has all the command and authority of a wet lettuce resulting in these 2 (who have their own podcast btw) hijacking the proceedings and droning on about a subject which at this point has been covered and beaten to death.

It’s no biggie in the greater scheme of things although it does highlight how much Gerstmann is carrying GB West and this San Francisco operation would have virtually no identity without him.

My sentiments exactly - I couldn't make it through the drone about Full Throttle and tuned out entirely. The guys know their stuff, and I'm sure there's an audience for that, but this podcast was no fun at all.

Really hoping the new hire knows the video side so that we can see more of Jason again!

Totally agree with this and being a fan of the Thumbs podcast, I know that they don't play the variety of games GB does due to time constraints, etc. The guys hardly knew much of anything about Horizon on their own podcast and you kind of just have to say, "okay, not everyone in the industry is glued to games and games media and that's alright."

All of that said, I wanted to skip the Zelda stuff myself but I wasn't quite as annoyed as some other people here.

50 minutes into this episode and there is one guest that routinely interrupts and has abysmal group discussion manners. He probably doesn't realise he is doing it but you can feel that Brad senses it (as he is the one that keeps getting cut off). He has classic traits of people that exhibit this type of behaviour such as suddenly increasing the speed of his speech as well as notching up a few db louder.

The guy probably has no idea he is doing it as its very common subliminal reflex that many people have but you should have a friendly joke about it before you get him on again to see if he becomes more self aware.

Either way still love your podcasts, all the best from Sydney, AUS.

I know everyone hates this Bombcast but one of the guests sounds just like Norm McDonald and that tickles my fancy.

You know what, this was a totally fine podcast. Those Idle Thumbs fellows brought a different perspective into things and they were pretty funny too. Thanks for mixing up the guest list a bit.

If Brad is saying the Pro is underutilized for certain games, I won't argue that since it's pretty subjective. But saying "games are shipping without specific Pro support" is pretty blatantly false.

Mass Effect Andromeda (prior Bombcast Brad mentioned something about the Pro version having more framerate drops which oddly enough isn't mentioned by DF)

There's also a helpful thread from Neogaf that summarizes the improvements to every game with Pro support (including games that allow supersampling of higher resolutions down to 1080p display).

Also, I hope he isn't using games like Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 as games not supporting Pro as both games came out in Japan prior to the Pro's release and thus were not required to have a patch.

If you want to argue these effects are subtle on 1080p displays, that's fine (though most Pro-enabled games tend to support supersampling). But please don't say these recent games don't have real Pro support, when there clearly is. I know people want a homogenized "every game has the same resolution/performance bump on the Pro" solution that's easy to digest and understand, but the reality is, game development is tricky. Each developer has their own ideas of where the extra hardware power should go for their game.
