Metal Gear Scanlon: 4: Part 01

PS I played MGS4 recently and I'm really interested to see how far they get here. Can't be more than 5 minutes of gameplay in this episode. Those ridiculous commercials alone take forever.

Hmmm. Dan's least favorite MGS gameplay section ever... Would that be the tailing in Act III? Or possibly the infinite spawns in Act IV?

Edit: @drew@danryckert I believe there are tutorials for movement and shooting and such. I would suggest you take those, since there's quite a lot more you can do in this one. The ring around you is sort of a "sense" thing. It shows you where enemies are in your surroundings, the higher the peak, the closer they are. I would also crouch-walk almost all the time. Finally, the rebels are on your side. You can help them, and they'll leave you be.

I'm a fan of Jason's R1 action at 4:12.

Edit: Holy shit, I had no idea you could change the channels in the opening. Also, I hope Dan reminds Drew to hit the Codec a lot. It's really easy to miss most of the Codec stuff in this one, since you don't get a lot of calls.

Man I want an HD remake of this. Of all the games I had on PS3 and can't play anymore because I no longer have mine, this is the one I want to play through before Phantom Pain comes out...

The very first thing that happens is Dan refuses to try a Snake-endorsed energy drink to toast the start of the show, claiming he's "never tried an energy drink." I don't know if this is a good portent for this season or a poor one.

MGS4 has the most well direct cutscenes and gameplay sections of all time.

@tiffanytryhard: Especially considering the fact that we've seen him drink sodas on streams multiple times. I'm not sure he understand the amount of caffeine and sugar those things have compared to your average energy drink.

They could charge 0.99 cents per additional 10 minutes of footage and I would gladly pay it until my bank account ran dry. An hour at a time is simply not enough!

I'm super excited to watch Drew play my favorite game of all time. Also, the iPod put it on the top of the list. I mean, who puts a fucking working iPod in a video game? Kojima, that's who.

@danryckert @drewbert The shake to reset the OctoCamo still works, but it's a lateral shake. Try letting go with one hand and making a frisbee throwing motion. It can help a bit to quickly hide in a darker area without having to wait against a wall for a second.

did dan really wuss out on that enegry drink at the beginning????

For a seven year old game, this still looks pretty sharp.
