Na it's definitely a remark of frustration. I'd cut it to 90% of the time being used when someone's frustrated vs 10% when someone's taunting. That's probably reserved to fighters in a ring.

Holy shit. Drew's Goro joke and Dan refusing to acknowledge it. Incredible.

Re: "Come on!" debate. My teammates and I yell it all the time when we play football (soccer), after scoring a goal or making a save. It's meant to be like "YES!!! Come on [we can see this through to the end]". We also use it out of frustration, as in "God damnit! Come on [that should have gone in]", but less so.

Come on in Swedish literally translates to come again, so maybe that's why?

For those who are thinking about playing MGS Rising... for the love of God... LEARN TO PARRY or the game is a lot more frustrating and slow. Watch this guy's video.

Here's what the game looks like when the player knows what they're doing.

It's like Punch-Out in principle. Defensive moves preface offensive barrage. Button mashing or trying to attack wildly without first countering = slow drawn out frustration and more frequent loss.

Is this playthrough just gonna be comments filled with plz parry? He doesn't need to. He's playing on easy. I did the same thing and just mashed my way through. They are just trying to see the story.

He told Drew to play on Easy because he doesn't understand the parry mechanic, and thinks Drew wouldn't either. Although, given how they both talked over the (very shitty and half-baked) tutorial, it was probably the right move. It would be nice if Dan would stop talking mess about it though; changing the traditional dodge into an active parry gives the game a much more aggressive offense-first pacing that most stylish action games don't have. It makes fights feel like you're constantly overpowering and stomping anyone who dares come near you, rather than outmaneuvering them. Your defense button is the exact same as your offense button, and it feels very natural to ease in to.

Platinum also put the "traditional" dodge move on a button combo (B+Y I think it is, or the equivalent), which might feel weird at first but it makes sense. By having the dodge be a bigger inconvenience to use, it makes the parries seem a lot more inviting to engage with.

Honestly, the only change Platinum would have to make to the tutorial is having the game stop you from progressing until you can parry 5 times in a row successfully. By the time you mess up once or twice, the enemy they throw at you is dead and the game just moves on without the player having learned anything.

Man it's not a GB playthrough without people complaining about Dan messing up the instructions to Drew! Maybe this time people will realize that the entire series is pre-recorded and there is no way they will read the comments?

If you never did a Platinum game Rising is a hard starting point. Since it emphasizes defensive playing in order to open up attack windows. But whatever Drew is playing this god damned masterpiece

Are you American? I have literally never heard that phrase used by anyone in New England or the Midwest (I can't speak for other areas of the US directly) - outside of a context of an expression of frustration and/or negative reinforcement... that I can remember at least.

If it is said in a fight, it would usually if not pretty much always be "Come at me", or not a taunt but an expression of frustration at the tactics of one's opponent or something similar like that.

Well, I should say aside from many video games with poor translations.... so, I guess I HAVE heard it used that way at times, in anime (or anything poorly translated), or when an English speaking character was written or translated by someone in the UK or another English speaking country, where Come On might be used differently as a taunt or whatever.

Oh boy its kinda rough watching drew barrel ahead at a 100 miles an hour paying attention to so litle as he goes haha. But I guess that's how scanlon do, guess I should be use to it by now lol.

Man I have to replay this game.

BTW, i played this game on normal and didn't really understand how to parry until the very last fight, where I had to do it without getting hit since I was out of health packs. But bosses might be a problem for Drew if he doesn't at least get how to do it.

Also, I know this is all prerecorded.

I love it but it's a little painful that they keep ignoring the cue to Parry attacks also the cue when to do blade mode... and also that he keeps going into blade mode at the most inopportune moments... also I kept missing the left hands too I never really figured out when and how to do that

It's interesting playing along with these videos, because I'm constantly going into the AR mode and hunting down all the chests and such. It's like I'll play for three hours and then watch about 25 minutes of Drew, lol.

Mistral is basically Medusa, which makes her death (frozen by cold gas) that much more ironic.

The wackiness of Rising was pretty entertaining in the first episode, but it sure did wear off and get boring fast.
