Holy shit. When I saw the feature title on the upcoming I joked about it being the classic ASCII Rogue while fully expecting it to be Rogue Legacy 2. I love this website.

I wish you guys were playing the open source version instead, as the steam release by 'Epyx' is shady as hell. They just dumped a dosbox wrapped version of the original abandonware dos port lazily on steam. Didn't even bother to add trading cards or achievements (which could've been done in 10 minutes with screenshots of ASCII characters) Or they could've added the graphics and mouse interface from the Amiga port, or even added an option to play the original Unix mainframe version as a historical curiosity. But they did the bare minimum, and neither Michael Toy and Glenn Wichman or Ken Arnold are going to see a dime from the steam release.

You're gonna get through Rogue in no time. When you decide to tackle Nethack, then it gets tricky.

I played a lot of Nethack. It's fascinating to see just how much that game was taking verbatim from Rogue, even with the nonsense named scrolls.

Same with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, I guess, which is probably the most approachable old school Roguelike considering it has an excellent graphical version.

Gotta say I never realized just how much Shiren the Wanderer/Mystery Dungeon is just basically Rogue in structure. Obviously it's not as difficult and less complicated but like this is just the same thing dungeon-wise

So apparently a Quagga is an extinct subspecies of Plains Zebra that looks like a half horse/half zebra thing
