The GT fanboys in here are kind of hilarious. Jeff doesn't have to share your subjective opinion, and he stated why he was put off from games such these until later in the timeline/evolution of sim-like racers.

Aww, it's a bummer they weren't able to play more of Tail Concerto. It may be rather simple but it's still fun.

This was a bad demo derby, you guys had negative opinions on everything, and Jeff is just reinforcing the negativity and amplifying in the rest of the staff.

Cats would win the war between cats and dogs. It's easy to not think about Pumas, Cheetahs, Lions, Panthers etc as being cats, but I would think they would count as soldiers in the war between dogs and cats.

Demo Derby was the tipping point that made me go premium.

dd and game tapes are the only things keeping me premium.

Same here. It's a shame those are the premium features we're getting the least. There were only two Game Tapes last year: one in May and another in October and nothing else since then.

Could the hidden codes be the ones shown on the memory card on the Code Archive screen @1:06:22 or is that just the same animation for every disc?

Test Drive 5 introduced me to Fear Factory....Back in the days when random music videos would get packed into games via cheats. Thanks Test Drive.

Wow, I forgot how much Fear Factory was tied up with the Test Drive series, if I recall correctly, Test Drive 6 used s lot of their cover of Cars in its promos.

@demigodraven: Fear Factory was surprisingly prevalent for a short time in racing games in the late 90s. Love that band.

Oh, the internet...where being mildly critical of a video game you liked 20 years ago (but definitely have no desire to play NOW) means that the critic is a huge bummer who amplifies negativity in those around them.

GB clearly hates video games, is what I'm saying.

Yes, he seems to do that in a lot of content...its like he forgets that people are probably listening to this on headphones. At least others move away from the mic when screaming on the podcast.

DD have also become less fun to watch over the course of Dan/Drew leaving and I know others have brought this up before. It's nothing against Brad or Ben. I feel like when this first started they watched/played and did everything on the disc in a more serious manner, and 10 minutes into this their doing British voices, talking over everything and just seem to not care.

Just let East do these if West can't be bothered.

The original DD crew also made fun of a lot of stuff or talked over it and it was fine. What has changed the most was the dynamic of the show and the effort they put into it. Back then we had Dan who's always excited about everything (specially from this era), Drew who know some stuff but likes to have more information, and Jeff who would give them that information and context from all of his experience. It worked great because of that dynamic.

Now we have Brad who I see in kinda of Drew position but with less patience and more from the Jeff era so he doesn't ask as much as Drew did and Ben who is like the opposite of Dan since he's not really excited about anything, turns everything into some sort of loud ironic joke, and gets tired of trying rather quickly.

But honestly, I prefer that they keep this on West than going to the East office where they'll just keep joking, talk loudly over it, and don't have the informational part. It would be nice to have Dan on it, but they don't have a Drew and a Jeff to balance it. Also, East already has way too may premium shows, if we remove this one from West then they'll just talk about fighting games and not much more.

I miss codes!!!!

The Tomba games are some of my absolute favorites on the PS1, I think I only found about them because of some demo disc with Tomba 2 on it.

I love Tomba 1, its in my top 10 games of all time i think. But Tomba 2 disappointed me greatly. i downloaded it to the PS Classic, so Ill have to give it another go.

Jeez Ben. Stop screaming like that! Blew out my headphone son UPF that time with Gex and now just blew out my PC speakers. Really annoying. Next time I am sending a bill.

@fallopiantubes said:

Can you guys put a huge limiter/pad on Ben or something? He clearly isn't going to stop screaming at the top of his lungs and it would be cool if I could listen to a video at a normal level without my ears getting blown out.

FWIW, they already use pretty heavy compression and limiting, and Ben's scream isn't really any louder than the peaks in his normal voice. I usually hate screaming youtubers and things, but this doesn't bother me personally. The signal isn't anywhere near high enough to damage a speaker unless you're over-amping it, the reason it seems louder is because it's consistent.

No, he's way damn louder. Giantbomb has like the weirdest sound, parts are always so quiet... i have to turn my laptop up to like 85-90 (out of 100) to hear their content already, which makes every other channel/youtube super loud. But then being that high, when Ben yells its freaking LOUD.

Somehow missed this when it was a new video, but:

I think the analog controls were working in Test Drive, it's just that we were in the era of racing games where developers thought that if you wanted analog steering you also wanted to use the right analog stick for accelerate/brake.

Also there's an absolutely zero percent chance that GT1 didn't have analog support. IIRC its release was somewhat timed alongside the Dual Shock, and I recall it being a pretty big deal. It might have even been prominently advertised on the packaging? Even before the DS most semi-serious racing games still had analog support for steering wheels and weird shit like the NeGcon, often kind of temperamental with calibration in a way the DS automated, but still there. There's no way the most high-profile sim racing game to date on the system didn't offer analog.

Gran Turismo absolutely does have analogue support. It was late 1997 (in Japan, mid-1998 in the West) and the dual analogue controller was early 1997.
