Voicemail Dump Truck Proper Docking with Jeff and Ben

We're here to talk about things getting shut down, discuss the best year ever in gaming, and get real with some MMO customer support duties.

If you think the GIant Bombcast spends too much time talking about Not Video Games, you're going to hate this thing.

Ok.. this has been asked a million times I'm sure but, what's the name of the song that was playing at the beginning? I need this song in my ears at all times.

I enjoyed that call about WoW Classic. I was also one of the people who played WoW at release (and a few months earlier during the open betas). Playing WoW for that first year was an amazing experience. It was also my first proper experience with an MMO, so there was a lot about the whole thing that was new to me. I did so many things the "wrong" way back then, but it didn't matter much.

I met a lot of cool people, as well as some jerks. And there is something to be said about a server's community that just doesn't really exist that way anymore. Despite the fact that I ended up hating PVP, I was on a PVP server and you knew the names of people in the opposing faction who were known for ganking. It was a kind of thrilling experience to enter enemy territory for whatever reason.

I took my sweet time with hitting the level cap. Even though I bought the game in November 2004, I didn't hit level 60 until March 2005. And I played it a lot! I found my old livejournal post (heh) from the day I hit it, and while my screencap from then is long gone, I was smart enough to record that it took me "22 days, 14 hours, and 15 minutes" of playtime. I managed to cut that down a lot with my next character. I never did any raiding in those days. Just lots of dungeons and exploring.

Despite all this, I still quite like modern World of Warcraft. I've played every expansion as it came out. They kind of lost me with Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria, with me quitting the latter before even hitting the level cap. Somehow, Warlords of Draenor really pulled me in, despite it being considered one of the worst expansions. I even managed to do some raiding! And Legion was pretty cool, but my first few dungeon runs ended up tainted due to me somehow always ending up with jerks. It resulted in me never wanting to do dungeons, and I quit a few months into it. I'm not terribly excited for Battle for Azeroth so far. I've never really been interested in the Alliance vs. Horde stuff.

The announcement of WoW Classic servers has me mildly interested, but as others have mentioned, a good part of what made old WoW what it was is probably never coming back. I'm not in the same mindset as I was 13 years ago. But I will definitely check it out. Maybe I'll even try repeating my first character experience and try levelling up a Human Warrior from 1-60 in the protection tree. Seriously, I had no idea what I was doing, but I was pretty good in dungeon groups!

I was an EverQuest guide (basically a volunteer with limited GM powers). The 'online community' thing was so new and innocent that we had none of those protocols.

PUBG is not an indie game and is not comparable to a game like Binding of Isaac. It was financed and published by one of the largest game publishers in Korea, the makers of TERA Online

Don't really understand the siren's call of classic WoW. Also, you totally have to travel to dungeon entrances to do mythic and mythic+ dungeons and have to travel to raid entrances to raid. That stuff is totally still in the game and guilds are still really important. You'll never convince me that spamming trade chat (still happens btw) is better than the extensive lfg tools added in the last two expansions.
