"zero mentioning of an animus in this game" Classic Brad missing everything written and said throughout the whole game.

I'm several soloed gin tonics in and this came just before I bored myself to death.

Edit: ACIII took place at the outset of the Revolutionary War, guys. Possibly the entire thing, but I didn't finish the game so that's anybody's guess. Anyway, it's pretty easy to place when that game took place. I thought you were a nerd, Brad. Image shattered. And I'm drunk.

This game seems kinda terrible.

I wonder how much work this would take to get onto next-gen systems using the AC4 engine. Presumably more than they expect to make back in sales at this stage of the cycle.

I'm insanely bored with no new game releases, have beaten Black Flag and thoroughly enjoyed that. I received AC3 as a free gift with the purchase of a new SSD. Is AC3 a lot like this? Because I'm very much on the cusp of installing it just to play something but I sure as heck don't want to play anything that resembles the utter boredom that seems to be Liberation.

The reason the game is running badly on the machine they're playing is because anti aliasing on high and highest will kill framerate like a motherfucker. With AA on Medium, and everything else maxed out, the game runs at a steady 60fps, at least for me. Both AC3 and AC4 run at 40fps at the same settings so take that however you will. 'Tis a shitty engine for PC but this port isn't very demanding.

@ilikepopcans: After four AC games of having a quick menu, you'd think something like that would come off as natural to them. But NOPE! Sometimes, it can be so frustrating to watch Brad play games...

Would it be better to play it on a Vita if you have one?

The framerate kind of sucks from what I remember (I didn't finish it). So, I would say no unless you really want it portable.

I totally forgot about this release. It kinda makes sense though.

Hold down R1 and X or RB and A to crouch in any Assassin's Creed game Brad.

Vinny should have been driving this QL. Brad has not played enough AC to be proficient enough. Also it's really hard to watch him ignore on screen prompts and wonder aloud what he is missing.

That along with the knowledge of being able to spot the paths along trees, and Brad completely missing them is not fun to watch.. (On screen), "Desyncronized, you were spotted", (Brad) "wait, why did i fail the mission"??

My first experience with AC since the original was the Aveline DLC on PS4. It felt miles past the first and made a great first impression.

So I probably shouldn't play this since my Aveline experience has been 100% positive so far.

unfortunately very true. I try not to mention/care too often though - after awhile it just doesn't matter.

But Brad IS suuuuper quick to correct/disagree with the crew on the bombcast - I'd love to see Jeff/Vinny turn it on em' and correct him in a similar fashion. But I think they have given up/dont care as well.

Yeah, that was weird. I only played the Vita version, so I don't know if they've changed any story stuff in the PC/PS3 release, but the Vita version flat out started with the Abstergo logo, and someone congratulating you on your purchase of this new piece of Animus home entertainment technology, and doing the exact same kind of meta-commentary that AC 4 does. In Liberation you don't play as a game developer at Abstergo though - you play as a consumer enjoying their latest product.

I treat combat in these game like combat in Jrpg random encounter grinding.

Was their surprise at the two wrist blades genuine, or sarcastic? They realize you've had two since (I think) AC2, right?

Anyway, this game doesn't look great, but it's a $20 port of a handheld game, so my expectations weren't exactly high.

Oh good, if there's one thing we don't have enough of, it's Assassin's Creed games.

@jeff@vinny The difference is in their morphology. You can tell one from another by their snouts. Crocodiles jaws taper into a pointed shape, while alligators snouts are wide and rounded at the end. Saltwater is not a differentiater, no crocodilian likes saltwater. Nile crocodiles, for example, don't live in saltwater, and while there is a kind called 'saltwater crocodiles', they use the ocean to go from place to place without dying, they don't thrive there.

I've always been interested in this game merely because it has a non-white non-male protagonist and in the gaming industry that sadly makes it more interesting that most other games.

This is a decent HD port and a good start for Rihanna's career in video games.

I agree with Brad, it's strange that there's no "stealth crouch" stance in the series yet. I don't know if that would change anything, but I have had a couple moments where I was caught because I couldn't hide behind a chest-high wall.

The stealth in general really needs an overdue overhaul. ACIV is awesome, but you can still feel the age of the mechanics for any mission not involving a boat.

I played Liberation before AC3 and I really enjoyed the tree running. The bayou is pretty much path impeding swamp water with trees above to ease travel

The game can be a pain, but Brad slumping around in the water, going to all way points in a straight line, didn't help

@draxyle: I feel like Assassin's Creed (except for three) gives you exactly what you need to, to accomplish what needs to be done, and nothing more. That was something I would have liked early on, since you have games like Splinter Cell or the Arkham games and what have you that do it, so playing an AC game feels like it would benefit from it. That being said, I thought AC4 was perfectly fine with the way it was and gave the player enough options to get past areas that pushed you to sneak.
