Quick Look: Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition

was looking forward to this ql :D

Okay. I suppose that "full clip" is a reference to speed (a nautical one, no less) and is supposed to be a secondary reference to guns...but wouldn't you assume that someone making a game centering on guns and shooting would know something (ANYthing) about their terminology? The guns used in this game (and basically any modern/futuristic shooter) don't use clips, they use magazines. "Full clip" is utterly meaningless in the context of this game. It annoys me enough that I wouldn't even consider checking out this version, and I'm only a fledgling firearms enthusiast.

Bulletstorm deserves better. The G2A bullshit, having Duke jammed in there, having it be a full priced remake, being associated with Gearbox, etc.

Yeah the G2A partnership is such a downer. They really killed their dick on this one.

I really liked this game. I don't need to play it again that's for sure, but I really did enjoy it. Shame to see Gearbox shoving shit into it and over charging and G2A and so on.

I know the crew seems flummoxed by the Duke stuff, but if you think of it as a voice pack for CoD or DoTA or something it makes more sense. I mean there was just a question to the Bombcast about voice packs for the Ghost in Destiny...this seems exactly like that. It breaks the fiction and is basically just a dumb goof if you like the character.

@mormonwarrior: Language is descriptive, not prescriptive (or is it proscriptive? I forget what Austin says). You're totally right, but it doesn't really matter, because everyone knows that when people say clip they usually mean magazine.

Bulletstorm is awesome, shame that Jeff didn't get further in the game and I dunno.. showed it off a little better. When you get into it and learn how to position yourself and kick guys with grenades strapped around their heads into crowds of bad guys it's super satisfying. Not to mention all the bizarre and spectacular one-offs throughout the campaign.

I enjoyed Bulletstorm when it came out, although the tone of the game is abysmal from the get go, the shooting is real fun.

That being said how the fuck this exists as a 60$ thing blows my mind, but trying to understand Randy Pitchford is futile.

Bulletstorm is a cool game. The Duke stuff is godawful.

If this had an arc where Duke Nukem realized how lame he sounds by the end of the game maybe it wouldn't be so bad?

I think the Duke lines are intentionally bad. I mean "This is gonna hut... for you" is that terrible bane line from Dark Knight Rises. Now I really wanna play this as Duke. Too bad owners of the original don't seem to get a deal on the remaster :(

This looks like one of the laziest cash grabs I have seen. Nothing against Bulletstorm, but its was only 6 years old and Duke... boy that feels forced.

The Duke stuff is bad, but I am completely in Jeff's boat: this game's story is WAYYYYY better than it has any right to be, and it has a shocking amount of heart. It's a story of guilt, regret, and redemption, with a bunch of swears scribbled in the margins.

The Duke stuff isn't well implemented but if anyone is coming to this remaster having played alot of the original then at least it'll make it slightly different.

It's both. That's why many arguments about it are pointless. Some people go by the letter of the law, others by the spirit of the law. Neither is wrong, it's just important that practicers of both recognize that the other exists.

Between the quality of this Duke DLC and Gearbox' current issues with G2A all I can say is

"Oh Gearbox..."
"Oh Randy..."

When I first played this game through I wasn't that into it, but then when I went back on hard way later, I actually enjoyed it a lot more. I might get this, it's unfortunate Duke Nukem is a DLC you have to buy if you don't preorder, from what I am gathering. Also, Duke dives to save Ishi, and then right after, he doesn't know who he is.

The Duke stuff is ok for free, just a few different jokes.

The duke stuff is super fucking dumb and I kinda like it for that.

but the g2a stuff is a giant bummer. Also I seem to recall the PC version having weird mouse control stuff as was the norm at the time. They better at least have fixed that for this price.

Looked cool until the duke stuff, i thought about buying this game a while back but never did don't see myself paying more than 10 bux for it though.

I only tried this game briefly back at release, but I think the skill shot system is severly flawed in that it sometimes doesn't notice/acknowledge cool shit you do, just because it's not in their list. The system just feels way too rigid and not dynamic enough, even combinations of different skill kills seem to often go unrewarded. Maybe you unlock more of it further into the game, but that almost makes it dumber.

Might get it on sale

I am completely shocked that Gearbox would put out something hackneyed and low-effort.

I am pretty far down the rabbit hole. I own a few guns, buy/trade/sell pretty often, and really need to pass down some advice: Give it up, it doesn't matter. If you are going to clutch pearls over this, don't let anyone get away with calling a firearm a "gun."

Clips aren't used in any modern-designed rifles (I think the newest gun to use stripper clips is the Grendel P10, and even then it is only for loading an internal magazine), manufacturers use "clip" and "magazine" interchangeably, and everyone knows what everyone is talking about when the term "clip" is used. Colloquial use has made it part of the common vernacular. The battle is lost, clip means magazine to most folks and it doesn't really matter.

This reminds me just how much fun Bulletstorm was. But I'm not paying $50 to go through it again; that's a crazy price.

Gotta disagree with Jeff and Brad here, the Duke stuff is actually working for me, just *because* it's so nonsensical and turns the story into gibberish. There's a (completely unintentional, I'm sure) meta-joke to be had there that I really dig: Not only did Duke's own franchise crash and burn, but now he's finding himself fucking things up for other games.

It's the closest we'll get to Jeff's own "sad Duke" elevator pitch.

Buying ammo bummed me out, but Bulletstorm was a cool fucking game.

The multiplayer is great in this if you have a crew to roll with! Maybe not worth the price but, still a good time.

Looks like I'm in the minority, thinking that sticking a different character into an existing/old game is pretty neat. Maybe it isn't masterfully done or anything, but I'm digging it. Will pick this up eventually.

@mormonwarrior: I'm a gun owner, I was in the infantry, and I have a range membership. But I'm so tired of that conversation. You're right, of course, but I think it's pretty clear at this point that the general public doesn't care about the inaccuracy of the term "clip". Admittedly though, I do cringe just slightly every time I see it misused. I've just learned not to waste my time correcting people.

And yes, I'm aware of the irony, considering that I took the time to respond to you responding to misuse of the term.
