Oh I'll CERTAINLY admit there are great Japanese versions.  Miyazaki films are amazing that way, as were some of the older classics of anime such as Bubblegum Crisis/AD Police, but it seems Japanese acting has actually gotten worse, though it may have as much to do with the deteriorating state of modern anime as with anything else.  And of course there's bad English performances (though nowhere near as much as there used to be).  However, the overacting, as you said, is a pretty huge issue, and I wish they'd tone it down just a bit, as it would do miracles to make the things sound more authentic.

Most of the voice actors are recognizable from other Atlus games (and other anime as well) and in the past have done a damn fine job.  Persona 3 had an excellent voice acting cast, and Persona 4 might have one of the best ever.  (You've done it right when the worst line read in the game becomes endearing instead of annoying.  "Aha!  Is this our chance?") 
Localizing the game keeps people like Rich Margolis and Yu Namba with jobs, and anyone who's played Persona: Revelations (pre-remade as SMT: Persona) knows that Atlus has come light years from where it was before in that department.  From one of the worst localizations ever, to consistently great work for their games, and games they've picked up from other developers to bring over.  (Remember, Sony didn't bring Demon's Souls to the US, they didn't think it would sell.)  Giving that localization team work and keeping them together is something I'm for.  

You and everyone else complaining about it not having the Japanese voice track DO have an option, it's called importing.  If you have an Xbox 360 you have three options, don't play the game, get a PS3 and import, or deal with the English dub.  


Now, if I can point out the bridge over there DokiDokiBawanga and ask you to please crawl back under it.

@Daroki: dub in persona 3\4  is decent. yes i had to suffer it though 2 times for each game. 
worst line in game is   "Aha!  Is this our chance?" ?? oh you far from it. worst of them is "Big bro" and annoying ass hell. onii-chan just don't translate well in to English and they fail to realise that such minute things makes all the difference. as for importing some people just don't have time to learn Japanese not to mention i have to learn English too (i learn it on my own) so import is impossible as i will not understand unvoiced text.
now maybe you should join me under this bridge as you crawled under there too.

Pretty certain it's Yuri Lowenthal actually (Yosuke), he's using his Pharos voice from P3. Also Catherine technically isn't connected to any of the SMT games.

@ptys: Vanillaware games have had several other publishers since Odin Sphere, but I suppose if they were to go back to Atlus Japan to release the HD games due to that relationship it could make some sense.

I have nightmares about watching Vinny play Dragon Age 2.

As much as Rob tries to sell this games, it will always be one of recent gamings significant let downs: The first we saw of Catherine made us think it was a psychological thriller genre Animé RPG or Adventure Game... But it's a shitty puzzle game that doesn't look fun at all.

As for the whole dubbing thing, even its well done, I'm tired of hearing the same voices in English dub Animé; kinda breaks the forth wall.

Atlus did exactly what Bioware did to me earlier with DA2. Got me initially totally hyped about the game, but upon seeing what the gameplay is like they lost my interest 100%.

The puzzle stuff seems like it could be slightly interesting when it's slowed down because you're not being chased, giving you time to do more complex things with the blocks. I wonder if that's something they capitalized on.
