You shouldn't be so shortsighted like that. Atlus arguably makes the best dubs out there and from the previews the dub actually looks great if not amazing.

Now am I disappointed that there's no Japanese voices? Of course I am. I am as big a fan of Norio Wakamoto just as much as I am a fan of Michelle Ruff, but you should stay positive and support in Atlus and maybe in turn, if we show our support for them as well, they'll listen to us and eventually give us Japanese Audio through PSN/XBL

Not that many people care. This comment section being plenty of proof of that.

They are a business, not a charity.

It certainly isn't Yuri Lowenthall because he already said he isn't working on this game.

Check the 1/4th mark in the animation clip where he talks about nerves and shit.....I think it sounds EXACTLY like Wittenberg. He's got a lot of range, to boot.

@DokiDokiBawanga: I have to agree with you in a way there. I am a huge buff for viewing/playing content in its original form as the way the director of the game intended. Thats why I am also saddened to see that there isn't a Japanese Language option.

But like I said we can always hope! And ugh just the mention of those threads on the Atlus forums on this issue made me never want to go on those forums ever again. Both sides For and Against Dual Audio were horrible.

English dub doesn't sound bad, the Japanese voice actors do do a phenomenal job, but you can always import it if you favour the japanese voice acting.  The difficulty isn't really so intense that you need to wait for the NA release or anything.

Nope, I did not.

I lurked when that was going on and all I saw was a very small group of extremely whiny people regurgitating an argument over and over and over again. Most people who are actually going to buy the game really don't care. If they did, Atlus would have bothered to put the functionality in. More than any developer, they understand their fanbase.

Something used to describe people overly/creepily obsessed with Japanese culture.

As someone who is actually fluent in Japanese I'll tell you this, you're wrong.
Atlus' Japanese dubs are good, no doubt, but they aren't perfect. They suffer from many of the same faults as a lot of Japanese dubs. Atlus USA's English dubs are in fact usually very close in quality. They overall do a very good job, with a few misses here and there. On occasion the English actors even do better.

I won't argue with anyone who prefers the original Japanese dub. That's your own preference. However once people start going around acting like the Japanese voice acting is gods gift to humans I have to take issue, especially since 9 times out of 10 it's just coming from some weaboo who doesn't know the language and then goes around berating English voice acting like you know what the hell you're talking about. You don't.

@DokiDokiBawanga: When did I say anything about the translation? I'm talking about the voice acting. In terms of translation the Japanese version is in fact preferable, since you get the original script completely intact (something that anyone who doesn't know Japanese would gain no benefit from). Atlus' localizations are fantastic, but the original script is usually preferable.

I'm not talking about that though. I'm talking about the voice acting. You may not want to accept it, but both Japanese and English voice actors are quite good at what they do, and also not perfect at the same time. On the whole sure, Japanese voice acting is more consistently high quality than English voice acting (given that they have the benefit of actual training for voice actors) but when you start comparing the good English dubs to the Japanese dubs the level of quality is actually not that far apart.

@mutha3: I don't think using Atlus' forum as a way to gauge the size of a group when the forum itself is pretty small. Just look at how many people actually voted, barely 2 dozen.

Whether or not Catherine does sell more with Dual Audio, we'll never know, but I do agree that the sales wouldn't increase any significant amount even if they did add it.

With the Atlus being dedicated to their fanbase, I do agree. Not many companies out there go to the lengths that Atlus does for their fans, but that same reasoning is what gives me hope that they might eventually add the Japanese language option later down the line. Though I can see why they won't when so many people would forsake the excellent dubbing for such an asinine reason, but then the people who genuinely want the Japanese Audio alongside the English Audio for multiple playthroughs like me , those that want to enjoy the best of both worlds, on both the JP Actors and NA Actors end, would be left out.

Yes I am aware that importing is an option, but importing is expensive, not to mention that with the slew of releases coming out in the Fall, I'd much rather be spending the money buying a whole new game.

@mutha3: Hm, as somebody living/working in Japan, does that apply?  Or is it only for the creepy ones, in which case, I don't think we like them much here either <.<

@Wiseman4545: I think for me, it's not so much which is better, I've been playing it in Japanese, but the English versions sound fine too.  I just prefer consuming artistic media (books, movies, games) as close to the original format as I can, as I feel that is what they were intended for.  There are always things lost in translation, so to speak.  Of course, people who care enough to do that, can always just get the original version.

The two or so people that commented in those "flame threads" over and over again are even more irrelevant.

Again, if Atlus thought people actually cared, they'd include it. Their customers mostly don't. They'd be probably lose more money by including it, than gain it.

I'm sympthatic, believe me, but I just don't see it as very viable given Atlus' history.

This is looking a lot more interesting than I'd originally supposed it would be.  I also like seeing a Japanese game with a protagonist who is in his thirties.  I might just have to pick it up.

@Addfwyn: There's nothing wrong with like Japanese, or even preferring a Japanese dub to an English dub. It's really people like this guy here who have an instant knee-jerk reaction to an English dub and will always claim the Japanese dub is immensely superior, merely because it's Japanese and not English.

Normal people don't have such intense reactions to the mere idea of having to listen to someone talk in English instead of Japanese.

@mutha3: It's not really an issue of people not caring, obviously people do care, just not enough people. People don't seem to understand that it's not as simple as just throwing in the Japanese dub and calling it a day. The extra time and money cost is just not outweighed by the people who will choose not to buy the game because there's no Japanese voice track.

@mutha3: It always mostly struck me more on the fact that back in the PS2 days and recently with the PSP that their simply was not enough space for Dual Audio, in which case I am completely understandable that they couldn't add another language track, but now in this day and age space isn't an issue.

Though I can see why it would be simply too expensive to add the Japanese Language Track considering VA in Japan is held in much higher regard, though thats what I was mentioning before with depending with how well the game sells, that they might actually eventually add the voices as an ad on so that they appease to everyone, which is why despite the slight disappointment of the lack of the option that I am still whole heartidly supporting Atlus in all their endeavors!

Of course what I am thinking of is nothing more than a dream sadly enough.

@DokiDokiBawanga: No they will not. They simply cannot bring over the Japanese voices for free. They have to pay licensing fees and if anything its MORE expensive to license those Japanese voices than to create an entirely new language track.

Not to mention its true to an extent what mutha3 says, in that the majority of people who buy this game will most likely only play it in English, though those who would like to have Japanese Audio aren't as small as a minority as people seem to make out, they aren't as big as your thinking either. Atlus has to appeal to the largest audience and the only way to do that is with the dub as a priority

Why does Mysterious Voice sound like Ledger's Joker, and not Igor?!
Oh, yea, totally sounds like an evil Teddie...

The falling death screen is reminiscent of all the fan art of the bottom of Mario levels, with hundreds of dead Marios.

Sorry, but no.  Japanese voice actors (hell, Japanese actors in general) "convey emotion" by screaming their lines in a grossly exaggerated manner.   Japanese voice acting is actually quite shit.

@YukoAsho: I can't agree with that. Overacting is definitely an issue with Japanese dubs, but generalizing like that is just as bad as someone saying all English dubs suck. There's good and bad in both, blindly championing one and dismissing the other is just ignorance.

Holy crap. All these years, and I've only just now, thanks to this video, realized that "Q-bert" has "cube" in it. It all suddenly makes sense. The scales have fallen from my eyes!

I played that game so much when I was little. Man, I was dumb when I was a kid.
